SAME DIFFERENCE

Written by Don Mays
Rehearsals begin: September 1, 2026
Performances: September 24 - October 11, 2026

SEEKING:

  • ALLEY (ALLEY KAT) — he/him, Black, mid-20s. A Harlem gang leader who arrives in Providence shot and wounded, having lost his best friend Murph in the same drive-by. Charismatic and quick to anger, especially when challenged by Joel, with real tenderness underneath for Brenda.
  • BRENDA — she/her, Black, early-mid 20s. A singer who left Harlem to build a new life in Providence, with a regular gig at a gay bar. She becomes the reluctant peacemaker between Alley and Joel while also caring for her dying friend Aaron. Requires strong vocals and real emotional range.
  • JOEL — he/him/they, White, mid-20s. A drag performer whose lover Aaron is dying of AIDS in hospice, a visit he can't bring himself to make. He clashes physically and verbally with Alley throughout the play. Strong physical comedy, a convincing drag look, and real emotional depth.
  • STEPHON — he/him, Black, early 20s. Openly gay and flamboyant, recently returned to Providence from San Francisco. He's a steady, funny presence for both Joel and Brenda, and the one who visits Aaron most faithfully.
  • AARON — he/him, White, early-mid 20s. Joel's lover, in hospice with full-blown AIDS and visibly declining across the play. Portrays serious illness with honesty and dignity.
  • TODD — he/him/they, White, mid-30s. One of Joel's lovers, older and more established than John. Their relationship runs alongside Aaron's illness, on Joel's terms.
  • JOHN — he/him/they, White, mid-late 20s. Meets Joel at the bar in the opening scene and becomes a recurring partner.

SEAGULLS

Written by Beth Hyland
Rehearsals begin: October 26, 2026
Performances: November 19 - December 13, 2026

PLEASE NOTE: The actors in SEAGULLS accompany themselves on their instruments. As written, Con plays the guitar, Masha plays the keys, Simon plays the drums or bass, and ukulele (or be willing to learn ukulele), and Nina plays the ukulele or the guitar. The instrumentation can be adjusted slightly based on the abilities of the actors, but all actors must be comfortable simultaneously playing an instrument and singing.

SEEKING:

  • CON — he/him, early 20s, Any Ethnicity, from Los Angeles. The band's front man and primary songwriter, and the son of a former pop star, which leaves him anxious about proving he's earned anything on his own. Magnetic and funny but insecure underneath, he can turn jealous and self-destructive when he feels overshadowed by the people he loves. He and Nina truly care about each other and have tons of chemistry, and he is close friends with Masha and Simon since freshman year.
  • MASHA — she/her, early 20s, Any Ethnicity, from San Francisco. The band's keyboard player and Simon's girlfriend, dry-witted and perceptive, the one who reads everyone else more clearly than they read themselves. Her sarcasm guards her soft and vulnerable heart. She's figuring out what she actually wants for her own future outside the band. Dating Simon, but in love with her best friend, Con.
  • SIMON — he/him, early 20s, Any Ethnicity, from Pittsburgh. The band's drummer or bass player, warm, goofy, and endearingly earnest, often the comic relief in a group of more anxious, ambitious people. He has a deep well of emotion and intellect. Devoted to Masha and content in a way his friends aren't, he's more optimistic about the future and more sure of what (and who) he wants.
  • NINA — she/her, early 20s, Any Ethnicity, from Akron. Plays ukulele or guitar, and starts the play dating Con. She is intuitive and self-reliant but sometimes apologizes for taking up space. Talented and increasingly aware of it, she gets pulled toward a bigger opportunity outside the band that complicates her relationship with Con. Her and Con truly care about each other and have tons of chemistry. Warm and funny with her friends but carrying more pressure than she lets on.

GRAND HORIZONS

Written by Bess Wohl
Rehearsals begin: January 5, 2027
Performances: January 28 - February 21, 2027

SEEKING:

  • NANCY FRENCH (THIS ROLE HAS ALREADY BEEN CAST) — she/her, 70s. Any Ethnicity. A caring, resourceful former librarian, married to Bill for 50 years. Tired of living only half a life, she's the one who sets the play's central conflict in motion by asking for a divorce. Warm but done deferring, she's ready to build something of her own.
  • BILL FRENCH (THIS ROLE HAS ALREADY BEEN CAST) — he/him, 70s. Any Ethnicity. A retired pharmacist, full of crude dad jokes, who takes the divorce in stride. He's already moving on with his girlfriend, Carla, and seems largely unbothered by the disruption this causes everyone else. Easygoing on the surface, with impeccable comic timing.
  • BEN FRENCH — he/him, late 30s–40s. Any Ethnicity. Bill and Nancy's older son, a high-strung lawyer about to become a father for the first time. His parents' split puts pressure on his own marriage to Jess, and that stress shows up physically as well as emotionally. Tightly wound and prone to spiraling.
  • BRIAN FRENCH — he/him, late 30s–40s. Any Ethnicity. Bill and Nancy's younger son, a drama teacher who wears his heart on his sleeve. He's hit hard by his parents' breakup but mostly just wants everyone to get along.
  • JESS FRENCH — she/her, late 20s–40s. Any Ethnicity. Ben's very pregnant wife, a couples therapist by trade who ends up mediating her in-laws' conflict whether she wants to or not. Empathetic but plenty outspoken, she doesn't hesitate to push back on both her husband and her brother-in-law. Strong-willed and grounded amid everyone else's chaos.
  • TOMMY — he/him, 20s–mid 30s. Any Ethnicity. Confident, blunt, and flirtatious, he brings a humor-laced, no-nonsense energy that cuts through the family's drama. Comfortable setting boundaries and calling things as he sees them.
  • CARLA — she/her, mid 50s–70s. Any Ethnicity. Bill's girlfriend, a free spirit with a big sense of humor and a warmth that puts people at ease. She's candid, unfiltered, and entirely herself, no matter who's in the room. A breath of fresh air dropped into a tense family situation.

THE ANTIPODES

Written by Annie Baker
Rehearsals begin: March 2, 2027
Performances: March 25 – April 11, 2027

SEEKING:

  • SANDY — he/him, 55–70. Any Ethnicity. The legendary head of the writers' room. Warm, commanding, endlessly persuasive, the kind of boss people mythologize. Charismatic on the surface, more going on underneath.
  • SARAH — she/her, 22–32. Any Ethnicity. Sandy's assistant, upbeat and always managing logistics with cheerful competence. More to her than the job requires.
  • ELEANOR — she/her, 36–46. Any Ethnicity. The only woman among the writers. Wry, self-possessed, grounded. Knits throughout, snacks on hard-boiled eggs and green apples.
  • ADAM — he/him, 28–38. Any Ethnicity. Carries a physical scar and an unusual personal history. Curious, philosophical, drawn to big ideas. Needs to be able to carry an extended solo monologue.
  • DANNY M1 — he/him, 42–52. Any Ethnicity. A veteran of Sandy's previous show. Loud, funny, utterly unfiltered, tries to give himself the nickname “Flasheroo”. Strong comic timing, zero self-consciousness.
  • DANNY M2 — he/him, 35–45. Any Ethnicity. The quietest person in the room. Reserved, until he isn't. Asks for real stillness and control.
  • JOSH — he/him, 30–40. Any Ethnicity. One of the newer writers. Earnest, eager to please, full of half-baked theories the others mostly tolerate.
  • DAVE — he/him, 35–45. Any Ethnicity. Sandy's most devoted lieutenant. Fiercely loyal, increasingly high-strung about keeping the room's rules intact.
  • BRIAN — he/him, 22–32. Any Ethnicity. The room's note-taker, always on his laptop. Watchful and eager, more going on than anyone realizes.
  • VOICE OF MAX — he/him, voice only. Any Ethnicity. Heard but never seen, on a garbled video call. Posh accent, unbothered by everything.
