About the show: We Have Apples follows Jane, a quirky nineteen-year-old, who is determined to overcome her mental illness and become a successful writer. Paralyzed by the intensity of Depression, Jane’s illness personified, Jane is forced to check into a psychiatric facility. In the facility she falls in love with her psychiatrist’s son, who is pretending to be an outpatient. Frustrated by the childish therapy groups, Jane and her fellow patients start their own writing group. When a preventable tragedy occurs, will Jane work with the patients to expose the inadequate mental health care, risk her new love, all while fighting her own illness?
SEEKING ACTORS OF ALL ETHINICITIES AND GENDER IDENTITIES FOR ALL ROLES. Actors should be strong singers and comfortable with movement.
JANE:
20s. Quirky, smart, writer diagnosed with depression, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Strong mix, strong belt. Beautiful tone.
DEPRESSION:
Female. 20s. Personification of Jane’s mental illness and inner thoughts. She acts out Jane’s panic attacks. She can be funny, wry, sarcastic, intense, angry, vulnerable, creative. Lots of emotional depth. Powerful belt and able to riff. Should be a strong mover.
JACK:
20s, African-American. Kind, smart, young poet. Jane’s love interest. He has PTSD since his brother’s death. Flexible, dynamic voice. Up to high A, ideally strong presence in low range.
CHARLIE:
20s. Parents are immigrants. Med student with depression. Superb belter, with some soprano. Contemporary sound. Good ear for harmony and tasteful riffs.
ALEX:
20s-30s. Enthusiastic, funny, filmmaker, gay, diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Tenor.
DR WILLIAMS:
Middle-aged. Caring psychiatrist at the hospital. Good voice. Baritone.
AUNT KAREN/ ELLEN/ NURSE BRENDA/FLOWER:
Middle-aged. Character actor who can play four roles: Jane’s overwhelmed aunt, Orion’s overprotective mother, the sweet, funny nurse at the hospital, and Flower, the zany new-age life coach. Mezzo. Good voice for a solo.
ORION:
Male. 20s. Jane’s other love interest and Dr. Williams’ son. A slightly nerdy, wealthy, college student. Strong contemporary Bari-tenor.
HENRY:
Middle-aged. Former college professor diagnosed with schizophrenia. Good harmony singer. Pleasant voice for a ballad.
AVERY:
20s. Visual artist, diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and anorexia. Impressive belt.
MATT:
40s. Social worker at hospital on a power trip. Arrogant, short-tempered. Baritone.

About the show: The musical is being reframed as survivors of the cataclysmic events of the show relating the story to us, sort of Sweeney Todd meets Mr. Burns. Therefore, the cast age range is anything from early 20’s to late 30’s. We are seeking all ethnicities for all roles.
HARRY FINE:
Handsome, cocksure reality television star and science professor at The Most Prestigious Science University in California Aside from Stanford. Stalwart, driven, leading man type. Baritenor.
HARVEY FINKLER:
Nebbish, closeted ex-scientist-now-Sunday school teacher, Fine’s former partner - scientifically and romantically. Once confident with a brilliant mind, now a strait-jacketed, anxious man. Baritenor.
BEATRICE EDEN FINKLER:
His self-professed savior and beard, steadfastly clinging to her family values. She’s the conservative PTA mom turned up to eleven. Soprano with belt.
TRISCH:
Fine’s eager, dorky, and lovable T.A; she’ll do anything for her boss. Strong belt/Alto.
ENSEMBLE:
To play various roles including THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE (a bumbling idiot), KRAGTAR (A terrifying creature), CONGRESSMEN, CREEPY SUNDAY SCHOOL KIDS, RANDOM HBO PERSONALITIES, and DRAGONS.
