BREAKDOWN
AVAILABLE ROLE
WERNHER VON BRAUN
(Male, early 30's to mid 40's) His journey in the play covers 25 years, from 1943 to 1968. Charming, charismatic, often described as “impossibly good-looking,” highly intelligent, an incisive, welcoming wit and winning smile; the most popular guy at the party. Von Braun is a former Nazi engineer- responsible for the deaths of 20,000 prisoners at his V-2 rocket construction facility - who helped build America's space program and land a man on the moon. He is a true believer, both in himself and his mission of conquering space; never pompous, but always self-possessed. Must be able to learn German accent, speak limited French, and be able to bring dense scientific text to life; actors of all races and ethnicities are sought and STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to audition.
The following roles have been CAST. Actors may be considered for possible replacements if needed.
MARGOT MOREAU
Role CAST. (Female, mid 30's to mid 40's) a stage actress playing Antigone in Nazi-occupied Paris during 1943-1944. Strong, forceful, and ethical; She thinks deeply about the responsibilities of an artist in the resistance and holds herself and others to a high moral standard. She is a formidable match to von Braun's intelligence and wit. Must be able to learn French accent, speak limited French, and sing cabaret-style songs of the period. Actors of all races and ethnicities are sought and STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to audition.
MAJOR TAGGERT
Role CAST. (Male. mid 40's to mid 50's) His journey in the play goes from 1945 to 1968); a U.S. Army Major responsible for overseeing von Braun's transition to America from Germany and his subsequent rocket development efforts for the U.S. government. He is von Braun's protector and enabler. Taggert is unflappable, calm, and capable in the midst of administrative and political hurricanes. He is the coolest guy in the room in every room. Actors of all races and ethnicities are sought and STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to audition.
ACTOR 4
Role CAST. (Male, mid 30's to mid 50's) plays 17 different characters throughout the play including Neil Armstrong, Vice-President Lyndon Johnson, President John F. Kennedy, Walt Disney, and Heinrich Himmler. Must be an actor with the technical skill and flexibility to physically and vocally embody multiple characters. Actors of all races and ethnicities are sought and STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to audition.
