No appointment necessary. The producer will run all aspects of this call. Equity audition procedures will NOT be in effect, and no Equity Monitor will be provided. Casting personnel state that only Equity Members will be seen at this call. Please bring your current (paid-up) Equity card.

Please prepare a brief monologue from either European or American modern drama.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Seeking (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified :

NOTE: This is not a period production.

Håkon Werle:

Man, late 50s–60s. Gregers’s father. Wholesale merchant / wealthy industrialist (possibly ex-military). Physically attractive, financially successful, popular and confident.

Hjalmar Ekdal:

Man, 35-40. Old Ekdal's son. Photographer. Very handsome. Has too many sides to his character. Has a languorous quality but is equally fiery and melodramatic. Needs excellent comic timing paired with a brooding intensity.

Gina Ekdal:

Woman, late 30s. Hjalmar’s wife, and former house servant of the Werles. Practical, warm and efficient. Moderately attractive, but not a great beauty.

Hedvig:

Seeking actress 18+ to play a 14-year-old girl. Hjalmar and Gina’s daughter, Kooky/odd. Older than her years emotionally, but still very much a child.

Relling / Others:

Male, mid 40s-60. Relling: Intelligent and cynical doctor, clearly appearing as a figure of knowledge. Track requires a character actor with ability for both intelligent use of language and comic timing. Also play either Mr. Balle (a party guest) and/or Pettersen (servant to Håkon Werle).

Molvik / Others:

Male, 40-50. Molvik: Drunken student of Theology. Lives under the care of Relling, keeping himself alive through an illusion of demonic possession. Seeking a strong character actor with excellent comic timing. Also plays Jensen (hired waiter) and/or Mr. Flor (party guest of Håkon Werle).

The following roles have been cast (offered and accepted). Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Old Ekdal:

CAST. Man, 60s. Håkon Werle’s former business partner. Socially tabooed figure. Comic / clowning ability matched with a dramatic intensity. Needs to be both comic and tragic. Military bearing.

Mrs. Sorby:

CAST. Woman, late 40s-50s. Housekeeper and fiancée of Håkon Werle. Fun, warm, enthusiastic and honest.

Gregers Werle:

CAST. Man, 30s. Håkon Werle’s impassioned, idealistic son.
