Doc:

Caucasian man, 40. Rock journalist. Driven, but coasting.

Baba Yaga / Ma:

Two roles for one actress. Baba Yaga: Chinese American, 40. Keeper of the Sugar House. Sharp, odd and very good at her job. Ma: Chinese, 35. No-nonsense, with a dreamer's soul.

Cecily / Opal:

Two roles for one actress. Cecily: African American, 35. Miles’s mother. A still wanderer. Opal: A photographer. Hopeful, warm and cold all at the same time.

Miles:

African American, 17. A dancer. A survivor, a realist.

Han:

Chinese American male, 16. A guitar player. Resilient, thoughtful.

Greta:

Chinese American, 17. A hunter and gatherer. Tough and yet fragile like glass.
