Breakdown

Seeking the following:

TRISTAN:
Male. Mid-20s – Early-30s. Shabby, charming, poetic, emotional, simple, youthful, attractive, sexy but just starting to look a bit too old for his lifestyle. Counter-cultural, anti-authoritative, sense of danger or temper underneath it all. Working class background, possible criminal background, troubled childhood, religious/spiritual, relaxed almost to the point of being lazy. A warm presence always and a playful one, but understands women like strength, confidence and mystery, all of which he plays up. He should, on some level though, still feel like a boy. Very comfortable with himself physically, there’s not much distance between his thoughts and his actions. (LEAD)

CONNIE:
Female. Mid-20s. Cerebral, anxious, funny, intelligent, controlling, defensive, curious, ambitious, doubtful, attractive. Middle class background, a skeptic with a rationalist approach who has been going through a hard time lately with her boyfriend, a recently separated man with a child. She can be a nervous or awkward presence but she uses humor to defend herself and once the wall is down she's a fun, vulnerable and loveable soul. There is LOT of distance between her thoughts and her actions. She’s very smart but something about her lacks confidence and there is an edge of loneliness to her, which is why she uses knowledge/facts as a defense. She used to describe herself as a risk-taker but not anymore. (LEAD)

DR. LORNA JAMES:
Female. Mid-40s. Warm, thoughtful, deep, sad, tired, sometimes nervous or anxious, verging on bitter but never quite living there. Lower-middle class background, very intelligent but suspects she wasted it. Original thinker who questions things Toby would just accept because they are standard practice. She doesn't have children and feels she has been short-changed by life in some way she can't always put her finger on. She was an incredibly promising student and researcher, far more than Toby, but a few severe bouts of depression have curbed her career path. Has the sheer weight that a lifetime of depression can give you, the physical tiredness and wear of it. A real medical professional with the detached professionalism and slightly teacherly quality that can engender. (LEAD)

DR. TOBY SEALEY:
Male. Mid-40s. Bright, ambitious, romantic, philanthropic, forward-thinking. Upper-middle class background. He's a successful, optimistic soul who commits totally to the thing he is interested in at that moment. He didn't leave his wife and kids because he's an asshole, he did so because he believes he fell head over heels for someone else, and what else could he do in that scenario? He bounces back quickly because he has exactly the motivated, go-getting attitude that culture wants us to have. Toby cares about people, he wouldn't be doing what he's doing otherwise. He cares about Lorna and has offered her a position because he knows recently she has been having trouble working after a severe depressive episode. He knows he treated her shabbily in the past but love affairs do happen, after all. Just because he is a forthright, sunny individual doesn't make him stupid or vacuous. (LEAD)
