Preparation

Please prepare your best song (32bars) and a one minute comedic monologue. Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. Bring headshot and resume.

Director David Perkovich, Artistic Director Bill Pullinsi, and Music Director Bill Underwood will attend with casting authority.

Breakdown

CHIP TOLENTINO: (tenor) - An athletic, social, boy scout and champion of the Twenty-Forth Spelling Bee, returns to defend his title, but he finds puberty hitting at an inopportune moment. Doubles as JESUS CHRIST and DOUGLAS PANCH: (baratone) - The Vice Principle, frustrated with his life, he finds the drive of the young spellers alien to him. He is infatuated with Rona Lisa Peretti, but she does not return his affections.

LEAF CONEYBEAR: (tenor) - Second runner-up in his district, Leaf finds everything about the bee amusing. Home-schooled, comes from a family of former hippies. He had Attention Deficit Disorder and spells words incorrectly while in a trance. Doubles as CARL DAD

LOGAINNE SCHWARTZANDGRUNUNIER RE (SCHWARTZY): (mezzo) - Logainne, the youngest and most politically aware speller, often makes comments about political figures. She has a desire to win to make her two fathers proud. She speaks with a lisp, and will be back next year.

MARCY PARK: (mezzo) - Marcy placed ninth in last year's nationals. Speaks six languages, a member of all- American hockey, a champion rugby player, plays Chopin and Mozart on multiple instruments, sleeps three hours a night, hides in the bathroom cabinet. She is the poster child for the Over-Achieving Asian, attends a Catholic school called 'Our lady of Intermittent Sorrows.' She is also not allowed to cry.

MITCH MAHONEY: (tenor) - The Official Comfort Counselor. An ex-convict doing his community service with the Bee, hands out juice boxes to losing students. Has no idea how to comfort, finds himself wishing he could make the kids feel better. Doubles as DAN'S DAD and OLIVE'S DAD, OLIVE OSTROVSKY: (mezzo) - A newcomer to competetive spelling. Her mother is in an ashram in India, her father is working late as usual, but he is trying to come sometime during the Bee. Olive made friends with her sictionary at a very young age. She starts enourmously shy, and shyly blossoms.

RONA LISA PERETTI: (mezzo)- The numer-one realtor in Putnam County, a former Bee Champion herself, and the returning moderator. She is a sweet woman, loves children, can be very stern when it comes to dealing with Vice PrincipalPanch and his feeling for her. Her interest in the competition is unflagging and drives it forward. Doubles as OLIVE'S MOM

WILLIAM BARFEE: (tenor) - a Putnam Bee finalist last year, he was eliminated because of an allergic

reaction to peanuts and is back for vindication. His famous 'Magic Foot' method of spelling has boosted him to spelling glory, even though he only has one working nostril and a touchy, bullying personality. He develops a crusk on Olive.
