Please prepare a brief 1940s-style. song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose. In addition to singing, some actors may be asked to read from sides, provided at the audition. All actors should prepare sides, in case they are asked to read.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back. Resume should include e-mail and actor's phone #.

Evokes the spirit of the cabaret musical of the 1940s. A San Francisco Chinatown restaurant is transformed into a nightclub with “Flower Sisters” songs, jokes and dances, despite the looming specter of WWII and internment. Piece reflects the history of Asian Americans in a time of war and hardship, joy and triumph.

Seeking actors (m/f). All must sing and dance well (tap/soft-shoe, tango, ballet, tai chi, jazz/jitterbug). All must speak English fluently.

Lil:

Chinese American woman, 40s. Owner of a San Francisco Chinatown restaurant in the 1940s.

Chase:

Asian American man, 20s. A waiter in Lil's restaurant. Falls in love with Mei Mei. Excellent singer and tap dancer/hoofer.

Jerry:

Chinese American man, 20s. Affable, comic type. Loves to tell Groucho Marx jokes. Is drafted.

Mei Mei:

Asian American / Amerasian woman, 30s. Seasoned dancer with a last chance at finding true love. Excellent singer and dancer.

The following three characters later become the Flower Sisters:

Sara:

Japanese American female, late teens. Excellent singer/dancer; ballet solo.

Peony:

Chinese American female, late teens. Waitress at Lil's restaurant.

Hyacinth:

Chinese-American female, late teens. Waitress at Lil's restaurant.
