Male and Female actors for the upcoming production of ROMEO AND JULIET. See Breakdown for details.

PREPARATION

Link to sides will be sent w/scheduling confirmation. A reader will be provided. Please bring two (2) copies of your headshot and resume to auditions. Video Auditions will be accepted. Please choose one of the sides or perform two contrasting Shakespeare pieces not to exceed 3 minutes in combined length. One of the pieces must be verse. Submit video audition to casting@sfstl.com.

Rehearsals for this production begin May 1, and the show closes June 24. Performances will be held in Shakespeare Glen, Forest Park.

Callbacks will be held on December 2nd from 1:30 - 5:00pm and Sunday, December 3rd from 10:00 - 3:00pm.

EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

Professional actors of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, abilities, backgrounds, and countries of origin are welcome and encouraged to audition. Actors in Romeo and Juliet may play more than one role. Those doublings will be announced with final cast announcement. There may be live music in the show. Please declare at the auditions if you play any musical instruments or sing and with what expertise. Please also declare any stage combat and/or dance training or expertise. The following roles are available:

Romeo, the son of Montague. Seeking adult actors with stage combat experience who can believably portray teenagers.

Juliet, 13-year-old daughter of Capulet. Seeking adult actors who can believably portray teenagers.

Friar Laurence, a Franciscan friar and Romeo's confidant. 40s-60s.

The Nurse, Juliet's personal attendant and confidante. 30s-60s.

Capulet, the patriarch of the house of Capulet. Juliet’s loving and hot-tempered father. 40s.

Mercutio, kinsman of Escalus, a friend of Romeo. Seeking adult actors with stage combat experience who can believably portray teenagers.

Benvolio, son of Montague, Romeo's cousin and best friend. Seeking adult actors with stage combat experience who can believably portray teenagers.

Lady Capulet, the matriarch of the house of Capulet. Juliet’s loving mother. 30s-40s.

Prince Escalus, the ruling Prince of Verona. 40s-50s.

Count Paris, a kinsman of Escalus who wishes to marry Juliet. Seeking adult actors with stage combat experience who can believably portray teenagers.

Montague, the patriarch of the house of Montague, loving father of Romeo. 40s.

Tybalt, hot-tempered cousin of Juliet and nephew of Lady Capulet. Seeking actors with stage combat experience. 20s.

Peter, Sampson, and Gregory, servants of the Capulet household. Seeking actors with stage combat experience. 20s- 30s.

Abram and Balthasar, servants of the Montague household. Seeking actors with stage combat experience. 20s-30s.

A Chorus reads a prologue to each of the first two acts. Any age, any gender.

Lady Montague, the matriarch of the house of Montague, loving mother of Romeo. Late 30s-40s.

Friar John, sent to deliver Friar Laurence's letter to Romeo. 40s-60s. Apothecary, reluctantly sells Romeo poison. 40s.

Rosaline, Lord Capulet's niece and Romeo's love in the beginning of the story. Seeking adult actors who can believably portray teenagers.

Other roles: Citizens, Servants, Wedding Guests, Watchmen will be cast from readings for the above.
