SOME OF THESE ROLES MAY BE DOUBLED

Walter Huff, male, mid-30s?
Insurance salesman for 15 years. Knows his job and knows he’s good at it. Smooth-talking huckster. Sees insurance as “the biggest gambling wheel in the world” and he’s the croupier. Calculating, audacious. Waiting for his chance to beat the odds. Still has a heart and a shred of decency.

Phyllis Nirlinger, female, late 20s – mid 30s.
Much younger wife of Herbert Nirlinger. Beautiful, seductive, duplicitous. Wants more and will find a way to get it. In bed with greed and a romantic view of death.

Herbert Nirlinger, male 50s?

Barton Keyes, male, 50s?
Long-time employee and colleague of Walter’s at General Fidelity of California. Insurance is in his bones. Friend/father figure to Walter. Obsessive, determined, instinctive. A company man with a soul.

Lola Nirlinger, female, 19
Phyllis’ stepdaughter. Pretty, flirtatious, naïve, sweet. Youthfully self-absorbed. Wounded but not undone. Needs (and seems to know how to get) help. Not the best judge of men.

Nino Sachetti, male, 26
Dating Lola. Chemistry major at USC. Flashy dresser. Hot-tempered. Always in need of cash. On shaky ground.

Mr. Norton, male, 35-45?
President of General Fidelity Insurance via inheritance. Privileged upbringing. Not the insurance pro his father was.

Jackson, male 40 – 60?
