Preparation
You may do two contrasting monologues or one monologue and a song. Not to exceed 2 1/2 minutes total. Accompanist will be provided, please bring sheet music in your key.

Hello My Baby (Set 100 years ago on the lower east side in Tin Pan alley)

Mickey McKee: Male, late teens, Tenor, Very youthful with a cocky confidence, with great humor but must be able to play period style. Proto type: Mickey Rooney, James Cagney

Nelly/Ned: Female, late teens, quirky leading lady, great sense of humor, very willing and adaptable, a strong belter with great chutzpah. Must be believable as a boy Proto type young Judy Garland.

Frances: Female, Early 20s Belt/mix voice. Nelly’s older sister, a bit maternal with great inner strength. The practical sister who discovers romance she never knew.
Violet: Female to believably play 14 onstage in a small house. Strong Belt. Precocious pipsqueak, wise cracking younger sister.

Ethel Coots: Female 50s, Merman type belt, last of the red hot mammas, a comic broad who wears the pants in her family.

Bert Coots: Male, 50s. Solid character baritone, Mr. Ethel Coots with a heart of gold and a weakness for Gilbert and Sullivan.

Albie Coots: Male, early 20s tenor song and dance man, excellent skills with harmony and strong falsetto

Noble Jones: Male, early 20s African American, song and dance man, excellent skills with harmony and strong falsetto.

Junior Tierney: Male, early 20s a recent Yale Graduate, pampered Upper East Side, sheltered but a real crooner when he sings.

Alice Tierney: Female, 18+/early 20s able to play 16yrs old, Pretty, debutante and Daddy’s girl, blissfully unaware that Ned is Nelly. Strong mix

Stanford Tierney: Male, 60s, a land baron and a snob, who is eager to demolish the Lower East Side to erect skyscrapers. Character singer.

Johnny Giovanni, Dickie The Duck, Kid Vicious: 3 Males, early 20s real character types, the Dead End Kids, Criminally comic but can be threatening, young thugs, not looking for cute. Must sing

Elle Woods: Mid 20s. Amazing actor/pop singer. She carries the show. The audience must fall in love with her.
