PAINTING THE CLOUDS WITH SUNSHINE (MacKellan / Kaufmann - World Premiere) - 4m, 4f;

Rehs. begin March 11, 2014. Perfs. April 2 - 20, 2014.

Story: A brand new musical with a parade of sensational songs from the 1930s! The Great Depression is viewed through the prism of the talking picture musicals that swept the clouds away in the darkest times, as a newsman and a waitress try to find romance in Hollywood. Songs include Good Morning Glory, Sing You Sinners, Jeepers Creepers, Thanks for the Memory, Marahuana, Did You Ever See a Dream Walking? and more.

Cast Breakdown:
GEORGE - Early to mid 30s. Lyric baritone. Our leading man, but should have a quirky or off-beat quality.
ALICE - Mid 20s. Lyric soprano with strong mid-range, our leading lady.
JOYCE - Late 20s, early 30s, Alice's best friend. Combination of Joan Blondell and Frances Langford. Strong dancer / tapper.
WILLA - Older, 40s into early 50s. Seen it all, lived it all, finally got enough money to buy a diner, which does well, considering the times. Older sister / mother confessor for various characters.
JAKE - Early to mid 20s, song and dance kid. Strong dancer / tapper.
GILBERT - Older, 40s - 50s, pairs up with WILLA. A friendly, genial man who - unbeknownst to Willa and Alice, is an executive at the studio down the street from the diner.
RUSSELL - 30s - early 40s. A star in the movie world, also serves as our singing Narrator. Strong singer / mover.
IRIS - Late 20s - mid 30s. A star in the movie world, also serves as a Narrator. Strong singer / mover.
