50s. Avid Boston Red Sox fan who would sell his soul to see them win. Married to Meg. Secretly yearned to be a professional baseball player his whole life. Baritone.
Meg Boyd:
40s-50s. Joe’s devoted and faithful wife. Soprano.
Joe Hardy:
Joe Boyd’s alter ego – the 22-year-old, home-run-hitting hero of the Boston Red Sox. Handsome, earnest, athletic. Strong lyric baritone.
Lola:
Ageless. Applegate’s seductive assistant. Superb singer/dancer/actress required. Mezzo.
Sister:
40s-50s. Meg’s outgoing, wisecracking friend.
Doris:
40s. Another friend of Meg. Sister’s sister.
Van Buren:
Man, 40s. Hard-working manager of the Boston Red Sox, with great heart but no luck. Baritone.
Gloria:
25-40. Hard-boiled, probing reporter who works for the local paper. Sharp, gal Friday-type belter who moves extremely well. Alto.

Judy:
30s. New girl in the office. Meek and insecure at first, later strong and empowered. Some physical comedy. Power belter.
Franklin Hart, Jr.:
Late 30s/40s. President of Consolidated Industries. Smarmy, pompous, male-chauvinist, corporate 1970s boss. Strong baritone.

20s. Six feet tall or over. Singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, TX. Intelligent, charismatic. Performer must play guitar, sing and act, and have a feel for rock ‘n’ roll. Some serious star potential. Must have a desire to live as a rock ‘n’ roll superstar every night.
Joe B Mauldin:
20s. Double bass player from Lubbock, TX. Serious, square young man with musical ability. Performer must be able to sing and act.
Jerry Allison:
20s. Drummer from Lubbock, TX. Good-looking, irrepressible fun-loving guy with musical ability. Performer must be able to sing and act.
Maria Elena Holly:
Hispanic American, 20s. Classy and well-educated. Performer must be able to sing, and musical ability is an advantage.
J. P. Richardson – The Big Bopper:
Six feet tall or over. Former DJ. Texan with an irrepressible larger-than-life character. Has the ability to command the stage on his own as a single performer. His key song is “Chantilly Lace”. Performer must be able to act, and the ability to play a musical instrument is an advantage but not prohibitive.
Ritchie Valens:
Hispanic American, 20s. Attractive and handsome singer with serious charisma, a dedicated eye for the ladies, and the ability to hold the stage in his own right. His key song is “La Bamba”. Performer must be able to act, and the ability to play a musical instrument is an advantage but not prohibitive.
Hipockets Duncan:
30s. Exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, TX. Has an air of authority and a keen sense of humor. Performer must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.
Norman Petty:
30s. Record producer from Clovis, NM. Has a businesslike manner and a love of making records. Performer must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.
Vi Petty:
30s. Norman’s wife. Heart of gold. Good sense of humor. Performer must be able to sing and act, and have exceptional rock ‘n’ roll keyboards ability.
