- Susy Hendrix, 30s–40s, female presenting. A recently blinded woman whose intelligence, determination, and resourcefulness become her greatest weapons when three dangerous men invade her home.
- Sam Henderson, 30s–40s, male presenting. Susy's loving, protective husband, a photographer whose innocent involvement with a mysterious doll sets the deadly events in motion.
- Gloria, 11–14, female presenting. Susy and Sam's precocious, troubled young neighbor, who becomes an unlikely ally in the dangerous game unfolding around them.
- Harry Roat, Jr., 30s–50s, male presenting. A cold, calculating and deeply disturbed criminal mastermind who delights in manipulating people and playing psychological games.
- Mike Talman, 30s–40s, male presenting. A charming, smooth-talking con man who poses as a police officer while attempting to gain Susy's trust and manipulate her.
- Sgt. Carlino, 40s–60s, male presenting. A volatile, streetwise criminal whose bluster and bravado conceal an increasingly uneasy conscience and fear of Roat.
- The Policeman, 30s–60s, male presenting. A genuine police officer whose brief encounter with Susy offers her a tenuous connection to safety and the outside world.

- Sharky, 45-55, male presenting. On the wagon. A man who has lost in life and love but is struggling to be better. Trying to hold it together but lacking in the confidence he once had.
- Richard, 50-65, male presenting. Recently blinded. A disheveled, fetid old rogue. Irascible, childish and demanding but with a whiff of Irish charm.
- Ivan, 40-55, male presenting. An innocent, but full of anxiety. A hard drinker who suffers from the after effects of his imbibing.
- Nicky, 35-50, male presenting. Confident cocky, always on the up and on the lookout. Thinks he's much better than he is.
- Mr. Lockhart, 50-60, male presenting. A different class to the other men and something of a mystery to them. Sophisticated in comparison, he is possessed of a dark and dangerous edge.
