BLITHE SPIRIT by Noel Coward

Directed by TBA

Rehearsals: Jul-Aug 2018 Performances: August 8-26, 2018

Edith – 20s to 30s. Maid to the Condomines. Not very smart, but quite cunning. She tends to rush around without much attention to her housekeeping and constantly needs to be told how to best accomplish her work.

Ruth – 30s to 40s. Wife of Charles Condomine. Generally calm, collected, staid and a bit frigid, except when confronted with Elvira’s presence in her home.

Charles – 40s to 50s. A successful author. Intelligent and egotistical. Charles is currently married to Ruth, and had been married to Elvira when she died. Charles has been at the mercy of the women around him for all his life.

Dr. Bradman – 50s to 60s. A country physician. Good-natured, skeptical about the talents of Madame Arcati.

Mrs. Bradman – 50s to 60s. The wife of Dr. Bradman. Fair and rather faded. Not too bright, tends to say the wrong thing, but is very apologetic for it.

Madame Arcati THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST

Elvira – 30s to 40s. Charles’ first wife, now a ghost. She is quite charming, glamorous and morally bankrupt. She is jealous of Ruth and determined to make Charles love her once again.

A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN by Eugene O’Neill

Directed by Mark Robbins

Rehearsals: Aug-Sept 2018 Performances: September 12-30, 2018

Josie Hogan – 20s-30s. She must seem immensely strong, more powerful than any but an exceptionally strong man, though there is no mannishness about her. She is enormously intelligent. She speaks her mind, with a tendency of being quite bold and forward. She is a woman of intense emotion and has a big, true heart.

Phil Hogan THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST

James Tyrone, Jr. THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST

Mike Hogan – 20s-30s. He seems puny compared to his sister Josie. He isn’t as intelligent as his father or sister, and is sullen, cunning and primly self-righteous. In short, Mike is a New England Irish Catholic Puritan and an extremely irritating youth to have around. “You are worse than decent. You are virtuous.”

T. Steadman Harder – 30s-40s. He seems younger than his age. A not unpleasant man, affable, sunburnt but healthy, he is simply immature, naturally lethargic, a bit stupid. He is deliberate in his speech, slow on the uptake and has no sense of humor.

Mrs. Westenra / Peasant Woman / Bride – 40s-60s. Lucy’s mother. Bit of a worry wort.

Rehearsals: Dec 2018-Jan 2019 Performances: January 9-27, 2019

Torvald Helmer – 30s-40s. A lawyer, newly promoted to bank manager. The authority figure in his household. He is kind but patronizing towards his wife. Torvald is quite concerned about his place in society and allows this to influence his decisions within his home.

Nora Helmer – 20s-30s. Torvald’s wife. Seemingly naive and silly at the beginning of the story, Nora gains increasing clarity about her oppressive marriage, and undergoes a marked change of character by the end of the play.

Dr. Rank – 30s-50s. A friend and neighbor of the Helmers. He is dying from “tuberculosis of the spine” or a venereal disease inherited from his father. Dr. Rank is in love with Nora.

Kristine Lind – 20s-30s. Nora’s childhood friend. Though she is the same age as Nora, she looks older. Life has been more difficult for Kristine. She was formerly attached to Krogstad, before she married her now late husband.

Nils Krogstad – 30s-50s. A clerk at Torvald’s bank. A few years prior to the action of the play, Krogstad got in trouble for forgery. His wife has died, leaving him with a few young sons, and he is trying to get back into the good graces of his employer for their sake. He is blackmailing Nora to get her to influence Torvald to allow him to keep his position at the bank.

Anne-Marie – 50s-70s. Helmer children’s current nurse and previously nurse to Nora as well. She is devoted to Nora and has acted as a mother figure in Nora’s life.

Helmer Children: CHILD ACTOR AUDITIONS TO BE HELD SEPARATELY TBA

DEATH AND THE MAIDEN by Ariel Dorfman

Directed by Cinnamon Schultz

Rehearsals: May 2019 Performances: May 22-June 9, 2019

Paulina Salas – 40s. During the political unrest in her country, many years before the action of this play, Paulina was kidnapped and repeatedly raped by a militant group. She was eventually freed, but the psychological damage from those events is still crippling. She is both strong and fragile, paranoid and aggressive.

Gerardo Escobar – 40s to 50s. Paulina’s husband. A human-rights lawyer. Gerardo has recently been appointed to investigate abuse during the military dictatorship, which is now overthrown. He is reasonable, but his actions are motivated by his desire to maintain his professional reputation. He repeatedly attempts to convince Paulina to let Miranda go.

Roberto Miranda – 50s to 60s. A wealthy doctor with a family. Miranda is taken hostage by Paulina, who believes him to be one of the men who kidnapped and raped her years ago. He insists upon his innocence, but his knowledge about details of the past casts doubt on his assertions. He is by turns placating and violent in his attempts to be set free.
