Independent Shakespeare Co. is a diverse company of theater-makers passionate about classical theater and the Los Angeles community. Our working style is highly collaborative, energetic, and audience-focused.
We seek actors who love language plays, want to explore the building blocks of story-telling, and wish to be part of an ensemble whose foundational values are creativity, connection, integrity, excellence, and joy. ISC’s team on stage and off stage reflects the Los Angeles community and we encourage BIPOC actors to audition. Everyone cast from these auditions must be available to do both productions.

MACBETH

BANQUO: 30’s - 40’s. BANQUO is tough and guided by a deep sense of integrity. Has a gentle love for Fleance, their child.
MALCOLM: teens - 20’s smart but inexperienced. During the course of the play, the character matures into their role as a leader.
MACDUFF: Extremely intelligent, emotionally passionate, and capable of acts of violence.
ENSEMBLE: Multiple roles in the production. The ability to portray disparate characters a must!
KNIGHT OF THE BURNING
Note: All actors will be playing multiple roles.
THE CITIZEN (40s-50’s): He is salt of the earth, not afraid to state his case, in love his wife, and generally good natured. Excellent comedian.
THE CITIZEN’S WIFE (40s-50’s): She is confident, and like her husband, proud of being “common folk”. Very creative and energetic. Excellent comedienne.
ENSEMBLE MEMBERS: All of who, are part of the “acting company” and take on many roles. Playing an instrument, singing, and eccentric skills a plus. Excellent comedians.
