IN LOVE WITH JOBIM is a one-act romantic comedy featuring the songs of Bossa Nova legend Antonio Carlos Jobim, including “The Girl from Ipanema,” “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars” and “One Note Samba.”

SEEKING (all roles are available):

Casting note: Performers must be adept at singing the jazz and Bossa Nova style music of Jobim.

[THE GIRL] Female, 20s. She is ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ and just as the song says, she is “tall and tan and young and lovely”. She is every man’s dream; gorgeous, vivacious and passionate. She falls in love quickly and head first, which presents a problem when she starts seeing two men at the same time. Must be a strong jazz singer. Soprano with belt.

[RAPHAEL] Male, 20’s. Gorgeous, cocky beach boy. Full of fun; full of energy, and full of himself. An ad for Abercrombie & Fitch who spends his days on the beach. Has never been in love before until he falls hard for The Girl. Bari-tenor.

[EDUARDO] Male, late 40s to 50s. A handsome aging playboy who is most at home on his yacht. Rich, cosmopolitan and charming. Moody and passionate. A GQ man. Also falls in love with The Girl. Baritone.

[NARRATOR] Male, late 40s to 60s. Our cool, laid back guide. He comments on the story to the audience and gives advice to the characters. He has seen it all and doesn’t take any of it too seriously. Charismatic and engaging, with a casual, off-the-cuff sense of humor. Should be able to carry a tune.
