BREAKDOWN

AVAILABLE ROLES:

[SUE (SUE-ICIDE)]
ROLE ON OFFER: Female, 18+ to play 16. A teenage incest survivor who has run away from her sexually abusive father and landed on the streets. Shy and withdrawn, but eager to explore, she has an inner strength and toughness that allows her to transform into an empowered, take charge street punk. Alto, versatile lead singer, strong punk belter with powerful low range, prefer belt up to D.

[MOM]
Female, 20s. The matriarch of the street tribe, she is the maternal influence on the street kids, acting as their protector as well as their moral compass. She is Sue's guide through the world of street punk. Alto, versatile lead and ensemble singer, strong punk belter with powerful low range. PLEASE NOTE: This character is the matriarch of the street tribe - this is different from the character of SUE’S MOTHER, who is Sue’s biological mother.

[P.D.]
ROLE ON OFFER: Male, 18-25. A flamboyant, witty, street punk. Charismatic, campy and self-aware, he is a snarky street hustler with a brain. Uses sarcasm and wit to hide his overwhelming desire to be cared for. Wide range tenor or Bari- tenor, prefer low G to high A, low notes flexible, strong punk lead and ensemble singer.

[TRASHLEY]
Female, 18-25. Mom’s lover. Tough, caustic and streetwise, she projects an outer shell of toughness, but is sensitive and prone to jealousy. She is committed to her street family and threatened by the arrival of Sue. Alto, versatile lead singer, strong punk belter with powerful low range, prefer belt up to D.

[NIKO]
ROLE ON OFFER: Male, late 20s to late 30s. The neighborhood drug dealer and pimp. Easygoing and laid back, but can turn vicious with no warning. Inherently threatening and prone to violence, he is a smiling cobra who is always looking for the next score. Minimal singing role.

[POLLY]
ROLE ON OFFER: Male, female or non-binary, 20s-30s. A streetwise hooker who is under the thumb of their pimp. Sarcastic and tough, but there’s a heart underneath all the snark. Minimal singing role. Especially interested in performers who identify as trans women or non-binary for this role.

[SUE'S MOTHER]
Female, late 30s-early 40s. A suburban mother, aware of the abuse that is going on under her roof, and tortured by her inability to stop it. Soprano or mezzo, strong lead singer. PLEASE NOTE: This character is Sue’s biological mother - this is different from the character of MOM, who is the matriarch of the street tribe.

[OFFICER RENKO]
ROLE ON OFFER: Male, early 40s. The good cop to Hill’s bad cop, he is good natured and affable. A longtime figure on the street, he’s seen it all and knows how to navigate the code of the street. Is later revealed to be Sue’s father. Minimal singing role.

UNAVAILABLE ROLES (Roles have been cast. Actors may be considered for possible replacements if any should be needed)

[NOSMO]
Role CAST. Male, 18-25. A street musician junkie and the heart of the punk tribe. Warm, sensitive and sweet-natured, he is caught in the struggle between his addiction and his hunger to make music. Wide range tenor or Bari-tenor, strong punk lead and ensemble singer. PLEASE NOTE: Actors for this role MUST be able to accompany themselves on guitar while singing. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

[BIG JOHN]:
Role CAST. Male, early 40s. Overweight and a bit nerdy, he is insecure about his appearance and uses male prostitutes as his sexual outlet. A regular client of P.D., he is sweet and self-effacing, and would make someone a great husband if he could get out of his own way. Baritone. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

[ED]
Role CAST. Male, late 20s to early 30s. Usually functions a few steps behind the rest of the tribe, he is a man of few words, but occasionally chimes in with a gem of unexpected wisdom. Tenor or Bari-Tenor, high A, strong punk lead and ensemble singer. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

[OFFICER HILL]
Role CAST. Male, 30s-40s, African-American. A tough, sometimes violent street cop. He maintains a delicate relationship with Mom and the street punks, but is ready to come down on them at a moment’s notice. Minimal singing role. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

STORY LINE: The show follows Sue, a teenage runaway with a dark secret, as she gets scooped up by a saucy tribe of castaway street punks that welcome her into their wild yet surprisingly functional street family. Enriched by the authors' own experiences, a very human truth emerges... we can all find happiness somewhere.
