FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

SEEKING:

[TEVYE] Male, mid 40s-50s. A poor Jewish dairyman. Earthy, warm, funny and hardworking. A man of the ‘old world’, he has a strong sense of tradition and morality and struggles with the ever-changing world around him. Charismatic and well-liked, his real zest for life is matched by his love for his family and community. He is set in his ways, but deeply vulnerable. Strong character singing voice.

[GOLDE] Female, mid-40s-50s. Jewish. Tevye’s domineering wife. Strong, loving and protective of her family and way of life. Mezzo.

[YENTE] Female, 50s-60s. Jewish. The matchmaker. Gossipy and meddling, she knows everyone’s business. Comedic. Alto.

[LAZAR WOLF] Male, 40s-50s. A Jewish butcher. A big physical presence. He is a wealthy widower who is interested in marrying Tzeitel, despite their age differences. Baritone.

[TZEITEL] Female, 20s. Jewish. Tevye’s oldest daughter. Responsible and dutiful. In love with Motel, the tailor. Mezzo/Soprano.

[HODEL] Female, 20s. Jewish. Tevye’s second daughter. A romantic, she is in love with Perchik. Beautiful, legit soprano.

[CHAVA] Female, 20s. Jewish. Tevye’s third daughter; his baby bird. Has a great thirst for knowledge and wants to open her father’s eyes. Mezzo/Soprano.

[MOTEL] Male, 20s-30s, Male, Jewish. A nebbishy tailor. In love with Tzeitel. Initially nervous and excitable, he matures and becomes a man. Good sense of comedy. Character bari-tenor.

[PERCHIK] Male, 20s-30s. Jewish. A student. Passionate, driven and intellectual, with radical ideas. In love with Hodel. Bari-tenor.

[FYEDKA] Male, 20s-30s. Russian. A young Russian, tall, blonde and handsome, he is a stark contrast to the Jewish residents of the village. Tenor.
