SEEKING TRUE TRIPLE THREATS with POP ROCK VOICES who can slay the vocals on these pop classics and who also have great ACTING/COMIC CHOPS and can really DANCE.

PREPARATION

Prepare a short song. The music style of the show is contemporary and rock. Please
bring sheet music in the correct key: accompanist provided but may not transpose..

BREAKDOWN

Based on Roger Kumble’s film, the relentless game of cat and mouse comes alive in CRUEL INTENTIONS: THE MUSICAL. The cult classic tale of seduction and revenge follows despicable stepsiblings, Sebastian and Kathryn, in their attempt to destroy their classmates. This 90s jukebox musical will make you laugh, cry, and when the stakes are this high, maybe even fall in love. And, sometimes, that’s the cruelest thing of all.

PLEASE NOTE: We are looking for ADULT actors 18+ for ALL roles.

Kathryn Merteuil:
Caucasian Female. 18+ to play 17-18 years old. Sexy, manipulative, and devious with a heart two sizes too small. Sebastian’s stepsister. MEZZO-SOPRANO – MUST BELT UP TO A HIGH D#. (Played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the original film.)

Sebastian Valmont:
Caucasian Male. 18+ to play 18. Manhattan’s richest and most dangerous playboy and Kathryn’s manipulative stepbrother. BARITONE/TENOR. (Played by Ryan Phillipe in the original film.)

Annette Hargrove:
Caucasian Female. 18+ to play 17-18 years old. A smart Kansas transplant thrust into New York City’s rich prep school world when her father is made headmaster of Sebastian and Kathryn’s school. She is passionate about abstaining from sexual activity before marriage. She becomes Sebastian’s virginal summer conquest turned first true love. MEZZO-SOPRANO. (Played by Reese Witherspoon in the original film.)

Cecile Caldwell:
Caucasian, Asian, Indian, Latina, or Bi-Racial Female. 18+ to play teen. A naive incoming freshman that Kathryn plans to corrupt in her quest for revenge. MEZZO-SOPRANO – MUST BELT UP TO A HIGH D. (Played by Selma Blair in the original film.)

Ronald Clifford:
African-American Male. 18-22. Cecile’s well-mannered music tutor who also becomes a pawn in Sebastian and Kathryn’s game. BARITONE/TENOR. (Played by Sean Patrick Thomas in the film.)

Blaine Tuttle:
Caucasian, Asian, Indian, Latino, or Bi-Racial Male. 18+ to play 17-18. Out and proud, Blaine is a gay high schooler who enjoys the fine art of blackmail. And sleeping with so many “straight” guys in school, he has a lot of black mail to dish out. TENOR. (Played by Joshua Jackson in the film.)

Greg McConnell:
Caucasian Male, 18+ to play 18. Manchester Prep’s All-American football stud known for tackling the tight ends on and off the field. (Also covers SEBASTIAN). HIGH TENOR – MUST BELT UP TO A HIGH B.

Bunny Caldwell/High Schooler:
Caucasian Female. Mid 20s - late 30s. Will play both Cecile’s mother, Bunny, and a high school peer to the other teens. Cecile’s mother is a full-time wasp and part-time racist. ALTO. (Played by Christine Baranski in the film.)

Male On-Stage Understudy/High School Friend:
African American Male. 18+ to play teen. A high school student/peer. Will cover all male roles except SEBASTIAN. MUST BELT UP TO A HIGH B.

Female On-Stage Understudy:
Caucasian Female. 18+ to play teen. Will cover all four female roles. MUST BELT UP TO A HIGH D#.
