PREPARATION

Please prepare 1-minute of movement or a 1-minute monologue and be prepared for a cold reading. Also, please bring your headshot and resume.

BREAKDOWN

Corduroy

SEEKING:

Any gender, any age, or ethnicity. Corduroy is a kind, innocent and loveable old bear who's been passed over for shinier, louder toys for too many years, but meeting a little girl named Lisa makes Corduroy feel courageous. He will do whatever it takes, braving escalators, evading the nightwatchman, to become her bear. A strong physical storyteller. Clowning experience is a plus.

Lisa

SEEKING:

Female, 18+ to play 9-12. Black/African-American. A persistent, young girl with a bright imagination who finds a fast friend in a scruffy, old teddy bear: Corduroy. Lisa believes special toys like Corduroy just need a friend who understands them. She will do whatever it takes to bring him home, even chores. Maybe then they both won't be lonely anymore. Female-identifying/Black.

The Nighttime Security Guard

SEEKING:

Any gender and ethnicity, age 20s+. The Nighttime Security Guard is a buttoned-up security guard who takes their job very seriously - always dotting i's and crossing t's and making sure nothing is out of place. Kind, courteous, fastidious.

Mother

SEEKING:

Female, Black/African-American. Late 20s-40s. Lisa's mother is kind, practical and busy doing all of the work it takes to manage a family and a household while her husband is out of town for business. She is a good mother to Lisa - she wants Lisa to grow into a responsible kid with a healthy social life. Female-identifying/Black.

Clown 1

SEEKING:

Any gender, age, or ethnicity. The Clowns are classic, Bill Irwin-esque characters who serve as a playful conduit between our audience and the story. The Clowns are very physical storytellers, working together using physical comedy and acrobatics to communicate.
