Monica (The Girl):
Caucasian Female; Adult actress 18+ to play Late Teens. BEAUTIFUL and Strange; The classic Outsider; Smart; Strong emotional availability, Young, but wise beyond her years. Witty but easily hurt; Compelling, with a misfit Beauty; A tragic heroine, caught in a life she's never really understood; Raised in a typical"normal" suburban home with parents who seem to her to be keeping secrets from her; She has learned to not ask questions, but instead turns to her artful photography of clouds for answers as she seeks out where she might belong in the world. Think LAUREN AMBROSE in SIX FEET UNDER, or CLAIRE DANES in MY SO CALLED LIFE… VOCALLY: Must Be an Excellent Singer; Good mix of ranges with a belt to Eb5.
Kevin (the Boy):
Male (theatre prefers to cast this role as an Asian male but may be any Ethnicity of the San Francisco Bay Area Ethnography EXCEPT Caucasian or Latino). Adult actor 18+ to play Late Teens
Funny, Charming, but NOT Too Slick; A nice guy who is trying to do the right thing and ends up caught in a series of events beyond his control; A Cute Guy; Recently broke up with Monica, and is having trouble handling her highly charged response to the situation. Appealing -- We have to want to see Monica end up with him (while at the same time wanting her to be with someone a little older, smarter, etc.); Actor must also have acting chops to carry the Emotional Devastation of the play’s ending… VOCALLY: Must Be an Excellent Singer; Pop Tenor to Bb4.
Victor (the Lover):
Latino Male; Late 30s – Early 40s. Sexy and Kind; Mexican by birth, he has returned to the San Francisco Bay area with a shop that sells antique maps, to seek out his first love, Caroline. His love for her has never wavered in spite of the horrendous and violent circumstances that forced them apart. But even as they rekindle, he finds himself intrigued by a strange beautiful very young woman who calls herself Mira (Monica) -- an Outsider, like him, and a little lost, just the way he is. When Caroline leaves him, Victor turns to Mira, and a new love ignites. Passionate and Sexy, but we also really care about him – Perhaps he has Sad Eyes; He has been hurt, beaten, and damaged, though he was completely innocent.
