BREAKDOWN

BROOKLYN LAUNDRY

SEEKING:

FRAN: Late 30s. Tough, quick to react to slights – perceived or actual – searching. Feels that her real life has, at once, never really started and is eluding her somehow. Looking for something (possibly someone or someones) she can call her own; for an outlet for all the love she carries. Funny, impatient, doesn’t suffer fools. A woman who, for better or worse, lives fully in the moment, unfiltered, who operates on instinct rather than rationale.

OWEN: 50s. A man who has lived a lot of life and has made some peace with it. Owns and operates a couple of laundromats because he decided he wanted to be his own boss. Rough around the edges and teasing, but big-hearted. He’s doing fine, but he’s lonely, unfulfilled, has been burned. Is he ready to take another chance?

TRISH: 30s/40s. One of FRAN’s sisters. Mother of two young kids. Dying of cancer. Married and divorced the same drug addict twice. A self-described “off the cuff” kind of person. Clear-sighted and upbeat, has always been self-aware even as she might be self-sabotaging; has a sardonic and withering yet genuine sense of humor, despite the situation she finds herself in. Doesn’t spend her energy worrying about things she can’t change. Loves her sister.

SUSIE: 40s. One of FRAN’s sisters. Mother of one autistic son. Also dying of cancer, as it turns out. The practical one. A no-nonsense, tough-love kind of person. Compassionate, but unwilling to allow sentiment to get in the way of what needs to be done. Determined to put her family in order before she dies. Loves her sister.
