Equity actors for roles in Boston Playwrights Theatre's 2022-23 Season (see breakdown).

We encourage performers of all gender identities, races, and ethnicities to participate.

Non-binary and genderqueer performers encouraged to submit for all roles.

Local actors are encouraged to submit.

EAT YOUR YOUNG OR LEPIDOPTERA, by J.C. Pankratz and Directed by Shamus McCarty

SYNOPSIS: Four campers in a wilderness therapy program meet with supernatural forces and struggle to survive. A comedy.

LUCIA, or “Luce,” a nonbinary girl. New Bedford, MA. Trans; 17 years old. (she/they)

JELLY, a teenage girl. San Francisco, CA. Trans; 16 years old. (she)

GINGER, or “Ginj,” a teenage girl. Junction City, KS. Cis; 17 years old. (she)

SYNOPSIS: Canadians and Americans pilgrimage to the last glacier to commune with nature and discover the “why”. A comedy.

SYNOPSIS: A teenage Junior Statesman of America wants to author The Best Obama Fanfiction ever written, but can she read up on drone strikes in time to kiss Barack at the Chicago Aquarium? A comedy.

MICHELLE: (ROLE CAST) Black, high school sophomore (15, she), active Junior Statesman of America, gears always turning.

CECI: (ROLE CAST) Afro-Latinx or Latinx (15, she), high school sophomore, secret Wikipedia editor, quiet sincerity.

BENNY: (ROLE CAST) Afro-Latinx, doubles as BARACK (you know the one) (17, he), high school senior, Ceci’s older brother, hottie, moms love him.

OBARACK: Black, any age, The Waluigi to Barack’s Luigi, looks and behaves nothing like the Barack we know, but they share something vital.

SYNOPSIS: What does it mean to be a queer immigrant in America and still deal with the cultural demands of family? An inter-generational drama.

KAREEMA: South Asian (Pakistani/POC, she), 40-50s, mother to Mashal.

MASHAL: (ROLE CAST) South Asian (Pakistani/POC, she/they), 20s, granddaughter of Manzoor.

SARAH/AMAL: (ROLE CAST) 20s, partner to Mashal (Pakistani-American/POC, she/they).

ALLIGATOR-A-PHOBIA IN 3D by Jay Eddy and Directed by Shamus McCarty

SYNOPSIS: Happy and Sweetness move to Swampland, and monsters abound. An absurd horror-comedy about alligators, swamps, isolation, and the fear of stepping outside your house.

SEEKING:

HAPPY: An unemployed poet. Any gender, any ethnicity, 30s. Ability to sing or play an instrument a plus.

SWEETNESS: Happy’s partner, an adventure photographer. Any gender, any ethnicity, 30s. Strong rock singer, ability to play an instrument a plus. Note: Trans and non-binary actors encouraged to submit for this role.

BIG MACK/MOVER, DOCTOR SHRINKER, and BIG GATOR: Big Mack is sweetness’s friend, an adventure writer. Any gender, any ethnicity, 30s. Strong and versatile singer, guitarist or drummer, ability to play additional instruments a plus. (ROLE CAST)
