Please note that AEA and non-Equity performers will be seen for these shows. We are looking for a very diverse range of ethnicity in our actors. All roles are paid.

NOTE: Out of town actors wishing to audition for the roles of BILLY and MICHAEL who cannot attend this call may submit a video audition. Video submissions will only be accepted for out of town actors for those two roles only. See added note in Breakdown for submission instructions

PREPARATION

Please prepare:
? Arrive prepared to dance; dance shoes and tap shoes, if you have them
? If asked to stay, please have one (1) 60-second contemporary comedic monologue and one (1) 16-bar musical theatre song prepared (please bring your sheet music)
? No a cappella singing or tracked accompaniment

OTHER

Primary personnel involved in the season of productions will be the Garden Theatre as producer along with the Garden Theatre's Consulting Artistic Director, directors, choreographers, musical directors, production manager, and production staff.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

STRONG DANCING REQUIRED
BILLY (8-13) Any Ethnicity. A boy who stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for dance; to him, dance is a way to feel whole and free himself from the problems of life; he finds himself stuck between appeasing family and chasing his newfound love. Vocal range: E3–C5. Dance: Must have ballet and tap training; must be able to jump rope; acrobatics, tumbling, and/or gymnastics training a plus, but not required.

STRONG DANCING REQUIRED
MICHAEL (8-14) Any Ethnicity. Billy's careless and fun-loving best friend; must sing (A#4-B4); he lives in the realm of expressing oneself, going so far as to commonly dress in women's clothing. Dance: Must move well; Strong tapper

STRONG DANCING REQUIRED
DEBBIE (9-12) The ballet teacher's daughter. A bit stand-offish and argumentative, her childhood crush on Billy leads her to constantly discourage him. Must have strong dance skills and be able to sing. Good actress.

STRONG DANCING REQUIRED
TALL BOY / POSH BOY (13-16) Portrays one of the boys in the community as well as one of the boys auditioning for the ballet school. Good actor and mover.

STRONG DANCING REQUIRED
BALLET GIRLS (9-16) Members of Mrs. Wilkinson’s ballet class. Various sizes and shapes and ethnicities. Should dance well but will look as if they don’t. Will also double as ballet dancers at the audition school.

NO DANCING REQUIRED
SMALL BOY (5-8) Any Ethnicity. A young boy who has a fun and humorous personality; this character starts the show with his entrance, and has some touching, adorable, and funny bits throughout the course of the show; no dance or singing experience is necessary.

OUT OF TOWN ACTORS ONLY:
Video submissions for Billy Elliot will be accepted ONLY for the roles of BILLY and MICHAEL.
Please submit a video only if you are unable to make the auditions because you don’t live locally. If you are local talent, an in-person audition is mandatory.
- AEA and non-union talent are eligible to submit for these roles.
- For BILLY - Submit a 30 second ballet combination showing advanced technique and turns. Submit a 30 second tap combination showing advanced technique and clean sounds. Submit 30 seconds of a musical theatre song. Record and submit the attached scene reading the role of Billy.
- For MICHAEL - Submit a 30 second tap combination showing advanced technique and clean sounds. Submit 30 seconds of a musical theatre song. Record and submit the attached scene reading the role of Michael.
- All submissions should be emailed to
