BREAKDOWN

SUZANNA, 30s, female identified, open ethnicity
In love with both Max and Andrew. Confused by her emotions and still grieving the loss of her father.

MAX, 35, male identified, open ethnicity
Suzanna's adopted brother. He has a very utilitarian view of love and family, but feels loyalty to Suzanna and her mother. Max overcompensates to fit into the upper class. He is not nurturing, has no empathy, he's selfish and caustic.

SUSAN, 60, female identified, white
Suzanna's mother. (I lifted this part right from the script, I think it's a great description-) She has MS and uses a cane, she is attractive, but there's a heaviness to her; the fatigue of endless fatigue. Her mind is sharp and she's cultivated a forceful manner to compensate for her physical disability. (this is new stuff from our conversation-) She is a woman who wants things the way wants them, and is full of tough love and honesty.

BECKY, 34, female identified, open ethnicity
Andrew's work friend, set up with Max on a date. Bit lost in life, her family doesn't speak to her, she works a temp job and doesn't have much money. She appears delicate, but has the capacity for deep darkness and manipulation. Susan says You may have been victimized in your life; you may be a complete con-artist...My sense is that you fall somewhere in between.

ANDREW, 31, male identified, open ethnicity
Suzanna's husband, they are newlyweds. He is an aspiring writer who has been forced into an Office Manager job. Max describes him as indie rock. He is the youngest of the group, and you can feel that. He is laid back, a nice guy, easy to be around. He rushes to the side of women in trouble, and it seems to be as much for his benefit as it is for theirs.

Sides:
For Suzanna and Max - p. 9 - .p 10, “Hey, I’m watching that…” to “No crying. Big dick.”
For Susan - p. 12 - 13, “My proposal is that we keep to the plan…” to “He means homosexual.”
For Andrew and Becky - p. 45 - p. 47, “I’m so sorry. I heard this weird noise…” to “Max settling down thing.”
