Equity actors for roles in AMERICAN IDIOT (see breakdown). Performers of all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to audition.
Prepare a brief cut no longer than a minute of a rock musical theatre song of your choice. An accompanist will be provided at in-person auditions. A Movement callback will be held concurrently with the EPA. Please arrive with movement clothes to change into in case you are asked to stay.

Movement: For each video auditioner, the directing team would like to give them the same amount of time with the movement material as an in-person auditioner. Please select one of the appointment blocks at the link below. Each block is two hours long, where the video auditioner will receive a link with the movement tutorial, then learn, film, and email a link to the combo to
enichter@flintrep.org within those two hours. After solidifying a time on the sign-up, this information and confirmation of time will be emailed.

JOHNNY 20-30. Baritone. The self-proclaimed “Jesus of Suburbia.” Bored of his do-nothing, go-nowhere existence, he takes off for the city to get a new lease on life. He wages an inner war between a budding love for Whatsername and growing dependency on St. Jimmy and drugs.

TUNNY 20-30. Tenor. Johnny’s friend who follows him to the city and eventually enlists in the army. A dreamer who is easily swayed, first by Johnny’s ideas and then by patriotism and the American Dream. Non-Binary and Trans actors are particularly encouraged to submit for this role.

WILL 20-30. Tenor. Johnny’s friend. He ends up staying in Suburbia to take care of pregnant girlfriend Heather. The more he stays on the couch, the more he becomes slowly disconnected from the world and his own relationships.

ST. JIMMY 30-40. Tenor. Johnny’s alter ego. Known as the “city badass.” An enigmatic and charismatic enabler who gets Johnny addicted to drugs and grows jealous of his relationship with Whatsername. Any gender.

HEATHER 20-30. Mezzo-Soprano. A girl in Suburbia and Will’s girlfriend. She discovers she is pregnant but has difficulty telling her boyfriend of the news. Once she settles down with him, she struggles to maintain their relationship with his despondency and eventually leaves him.

WHATSERNAME 20-30. Mezzo-Soprano. A girl in the city who falls for Johnny. A rebellious activist who is willing to follow Johnny to the ends of the earth, but fights to have him embrace their authentic relationship rather than pursue his addiction.

EXTRAORDINARY GIRL 20-35. Mezzo-Soprano. A girl who appears as a hallucination to injured Tunny. Attractive and mysterious. She has a powerful sense of empathy, purpose, and a belief in the possibility of change.

ENSEMBLE Seeking strong singers and dancers of all ethnicities, backgrounds, gender identities, body types, and abilities to portray the youth of Jingletown and various roles throughout the show.
