SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in ADIA & CLORA SNATCH JOY (See breakdown). Dates are subject to change. Actors who are local to Boston or New England are encouraged to audition. Huntington Theatre Company intends to use the terms of the LORT-Equity CBA Rule 35(S) to simulcast/stream a capture of a regularly scheduled performance to virtual ticket holders for this production.

PREPARATION

Please prepare one monologue of your choosing. Please be prepared with 16-bars of an acapella storytelling song and 16-bars of a legit musical theater song that shows off your range. An accompanist will be provided. Also, please bring a stapled copy of your headshot and resume. Each actor will have 3-minutes for their audition. Actors must be checked in 10-minutes prior to their audition slot. If they do not arrive in time, they will be moved to the waitlist.

SEEKING:

  • ELDER ADIAHA UFOT/VOICE FROM BOOK: (Principal, Mezzo D4 to D5, late 80s) Nigerian-American woman. Mainland Massachusetts accent, with facility to learn Ibibio and/or Gullah. All actresses playing Adiaha are sourced from the ensemble. When their part is complete, they are to fold back into the chorus of Wood Whittling Spirits.
  • MEDIUM ADIAHA UFOT/WOOD WHITTLING SPIRIT #3: (Principal, Mezzo G3 to F5, late 40s - early 50s) Nigerian-American woman. Mainland Massachusetts accent, with facility to learn Ibibio and/or Gullah. All actresses playing Adiaha are sourced from the ensemble. When their part is complete, they are to fold back into the chorus of Wood Whittling Spirits.
  • YOUNG ADIAHA UFOT: (Principal, age 9) Nigerian-American woman. Mainland Massachusetts accent, with facility to learn Ibibio and/or Gullah. We are seeking 2 actors for this role; the role will be double-cast.
  • ELDER CLORA ABERNATHY/VOICE FROM BOOK: (Principal, Mezzo, late 80s): Black Southern-American woman. Mainland South Carolina accent, with facility to learn Ibibio and/or Gullah. All actresses playing Clora are sourced from the ensemble. When their part is complete, they are to fold back into the chorus of Basket Weaving Spirits.
  • MEDIUM CLORA ABERNATHY (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST): (Principal, Mezzo A3 to F5, early 50s) and BASKET WEAVING SPIRIT #4
  • YOUNG CLORA ABERNATHY: (Principal, age 11-12) Black Southern-American woman. Mainland South Carolina accent, with facility to learn Ibibio and/or Gullah. We are seeking 2 actors for this role; the role will be double-cast.
  • ANIEKAN ABERNATHY: (Principal, early 30s) Black Southern-American man. The only son of Adiaha and Clora Abernathy. Mainland South Carolina accent, with facility to learn Ibibio and/or Gullah.
  • ABASIAMA/WOOD-WHITTLING SPIRIT #1 (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST): (Principal, Soprano B3 to A5, mid-20s)
  • WOOD-WHITTLING SPIRIT #2 (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST): (Chorus, Soprano G3 to A5)
  • WOOD-WHITTLING SPIRIT #4: (Chorus, Mezzo G3 to E5, 40s-50s) Adiaha’s female ancestor of West African [specifically Ibibio] descent. A good musician & mover.
  • WOOD-WHITTLING SPIRIT #5: (Chorus, Alto D3 to C4) Adiaha’s female ancestor of West African [specifically Ibibio] descent. A good musician & mover.
  • BASKET-WEAVING SPIRIT #1: (Chorus, Soprano D4 to B5 flat, late 30s-40s) Clora’s female ancestor from the American South [specifically Gullah folk]. A good musician & mover.
