This play has 7 actors in it and the doubling can be at the director’s discretion.

MARLENE, female, any ethnicity/race, 30s, lead, highly ambitious and has just been promoted at Top Girls. She is a strong woman who has worked her way into a position of power. Sophisticated and polished but from working class roots. British Accent.

JOYCE/WAITRESS – female, any ethnicity/race, 30’s. Marlene’s sister who stayed behind in Sussex to raise Angie as her own. She is as strong as Marlene but she made her life in the place where she was born. Suffolk accent. LADY

NIJO/JEANINE - LADY NIJO, female, Japanese, 30s; was an Emperor’s courtesan and later a Buddhist nun who travelled on foot through Japan. Elegant and used to luxury but can steel herself for hardship. JEANINE, female, 20; interviewing at Top Girls. Possibly Lady Nijo has a Japanese accent. Jeanine has a British accent.

ANGIE, female, any ethnicity/race, 20’s to play younger; Marlene’s biological daughter adopted by Marlene’s sister, Joyce. She is not at home in the world. She resents Joyce and longs for a relationship with Marlene. Has a Suffolk accent.

INDIA 1/MESSENGER, female, India 1, she is the captain of India’s Woman’s National Cricket Team. She can be in her early to mid 30’s. Athletic; fast bowler. MESSENGER is in the latter part of the play that takes place in the early 1800’s in India. The character is male and has finished a long and harrowing journey.

INDIA 2/ABHI, female, India 2 is a batsman on the National Cricket Team. She is athletic. Can be in her mid 20’s to early 30’s. ABHI is the head servant of the household of an officer of the East India Trading Company in the early 1800’s. Seemingly loyal but cunning. .

8 - 9 Ensemble Members: Male, Black. They play various characters -- to be determined by director. There are two to three ensemble members that participate in the more general responsibilities of the ensemble, but play only their assigned characters, these are:

Alberga: (young and sexy 63) Toni’s eventual husband.

Millie: (anywhere between mid 30’s to late 40’s) Toni’s female confidant

This production is particularly interested in a range of ages that is beyond the historical associations of ROCKY HORROR. All roles are completely open in terms of age/race/ability/superpowers. All roles require singing and dancing, but enthusiasm and gameness are ultimately more important than experience or training. This breakdown is a jumping off point for casting.

USHERETTE/MAGENTA, any ethnicity/race, ages 50+, Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, Bb3-Eb5, a domestic.

BRAD, any ethnicity/race, 20s-30s, Range: Bari Tenor, Bb2-G4. A hero. Brad is very much in love with his fiancé, Janet. He is overly optimistic at times.

JANET, any ethnicity/race, 26-35, Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, A3-Eb5; A heroine. Janet is very much in love with Brad.

NARRATOR, any ethnicity/race, any age, A lover of Sci Fi.

RIFF RAFF, any ethnicity/race, 25-40, Range: High Rock Tenor, D3-B4, A handyman, alien, and trusted servant.

COLUMBIA, any ethnicity/race, any age, Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt, E4-E5, A groupie

FRANK 'N' FURTER, any ethnicity/race, 30-45, Range: Baritone, D3-G4, master of the castle; master of seduction.

ROCKY, any ethnicity/race, 18-30, Range: Tenor, A3-G4, Frank’s magnificent creation.

EDDIE/DR. SCOTT, any ethnicity/race, 28-40, Range: Baritone, E3-F#4, Eddie is an ex-delivery boy; Scott is Eddie’s uncle and rival scientist.

4 PHANTOMS/TRANSILVANIANS, any gender, any ethnicity/race, various. A group of totally individual singers, movers, personalities, and specialty performers that authentically embody a wild and queer party spirit.
