Breakdown

Show Synopsis:
A CAROL is an original comedy with music that takes place in an East coast VFW hall in 1943 while World War II is raging across the Atlantic. The show focuses on the oddball friendship between a trio of singing sisters, an out-of-work Catskills comic, a limping piano player and their grumpy Scrooge-like landlady. It is a heartfelt and hopeful comedy that looks at making something right with all the wrong people.

Character Breakdown:

Silvia Carol:
20s-30s female. The eldest Carol sister. Driven, no-nonsense and smart, she is determined to get out of her small town once the war is over. Must be comfortable singing tight 3-part harmony. Playing the ukulele is a plus.

Rose Carol:
20s female. The middle Carol sister. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. Yearns for the days before the war when she was the center of all the boys’ attention. Must be comfortable singing tight 3-part harmony. Playing the ukulele is a plus.

Lily Carol:
20s female. The youngest Carol sister. Earnest, positive, funny – she lives in the moment and loves to laugh. Must be comfortable singing tight 3-part harmony. Playing the ukulele is a plus.

Miss Betty:
50s-60s female. The VFW hall landlady/caretaker. Cranky and controlling with a big heart and a big voice.

Mel Rubin:
50s-60s male. A Yiddish comic who has worked the Catskills circuit. Brash, funny and warm. Sings and does a little softshoe.

Thomas:
20s-30s male. Non-speaking role. Piano player.
