The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents the comedy, "The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood," today, Feb. 27-Mar. 15. Tickets may be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com, by phone at 515-277-6261, or at the Playhouse ticket office, 831 42nd St.

It sure is hard to be humble when you're a swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero. Robin Hood (Cody Schug), the gallant guy-in-green, tries his best as he swaggers through this frantically funny, Monty Pythonesque retelling of the classic.

This time the legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (Charlene Becicka); an ever-scheming sheriff (Nicholas Root) who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bull's-eye; and a bad-guy monarch-wannabe (Douglas Cochrane). Combine them with a band of spoon-wielding Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you've got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won't soon forget!

The Playhouse cast is directed by Anne Frett. The cast includes Lyndsy Darland, Danny Fast, Joshua Haldeman, Phil McLean, Don Rothweiler, and Joseph E. Smith II.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
