The Des Moines Community Playhouse will present "Rumplestiltskin," Friday, Oct. 7. This story is the first in the 2011-12 season of Friday Funday, a creative participatory story theatre program for children ages 4-6. October's featured story is "Rumplestiltskin." In this classic fairy tale with a modern twist, a strange man spins straw into gold. Can the clever miller's daughter outwit wily Rumplestiltskin?

Join the Clubhouse at The Playhouse Gang each month, October-June, as they dramatize a favorite story using their imaginations and the costume pieces and props they find in their magic trunk. Audience members learn the Clubhouse pledge and secret handshake, and listen for the word of the day. They even help act out the story.

The 2011-12 season features a variety of stories, including "The Tortoise and the Hare," Nov. 4; "The Little Engine That Could," Dec. 16; "Leopard's Drum," Jan. 13, 2012; "The Mitten," Feb. 3, 2012; "The Brave Little Tailor," Mar. 2, 2012; "Rapunzel," Apr. 13, 2012; "The Brementown Musicians," May 18, 2012; and a special Friday Funday event, "Pinkalicious," June 14-16, 2012.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
