The Des Moines Community Playhouse honors legends J Michael Kellar, Melissa Kellar, Greg Leavengood, Mark Morrison, and Antonia Nozicka on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018. A reception begins at 3:00 PM with a program at 4:00 PM. This event is free but reservations are required and may be made online at dmplayhouse.com or by calling 515-277-6261.

The five 2018 honorees represent nearly 40 years and more than 50 shows at the Playhouse. Beginning in the 1970s and continuing into the present, the Kellars, Leavengood, Morrison, and Nozicka have had lead roles in such shows as My Fair Lady, Meredith Willson's The Music Man, The Will Rogers Follies, Chicago, The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), and many others. They have performed at countless Playhouse special events and served as representatives of the theatre to the community.

Other 2018 inductees include Sue Caswell, Rich Richards, and Dick Russell. The Playhouse, now in its 100th season, will also honor the original board of the Little Theatre Society of Des Moines - James B. Weaver, Lewis Worthington Smith, Ida T. Jacobs, and Henry H. Griffiths - as well as Ditlev Tillisch, who produced and funded the theatre's first performance on Nov. 24, 1919.

This annual event is an opportunity to honor Playhouse legends whose talent and devotion to our theatre over a long period of time have helped set the high standards of entertainment, professionalism, and quality that Des Moines audiences expect today. Past recipients include Dale Berry, Jo Berry, Steve Berry, Shirley Brower, Michael Cornelison, Al Downey, Pearl Faessler, Kathi Fieldsend, Gina Gedler, Verner Haldene, Jeanne Hopson, Lenny Houts, Linda Juckette, Henrietta Kagin, Cloris Leachman, Phyllis Love, Jack Mishler, Phyllis Mumford, Toni Pickard, Marion Cowper Rae, Eddie Rissien, Maxwell Schaeffer, Ruthanne Silverstein, John Thompson, Joe Tish, Lloyd Von Hagen, and Richard Wulf.

The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
