The Des Moines Community Playhouse welcomes back Playhouse alumni Cloris Leachman and Eddie Rissien for Playhouse Legends, Aug. 27. Hors d'oeuvres reception begins at 4:00 PM with the program at 4:30 PM. Tickets may be purchased online at www.dmplayhouse.com.

Leachman performed in three shows at The Playhouse, then called the Kendall Theatre and located on 35th Street. She has since starred on Broadway, in motion pictures, and on television shows. In 1972, she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in "The Last Picture Show." Leachman has also won one Daytime and eight Primetime Emmy Awards, most notably for her role of Phyllis Lindstrom on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," which inspired a spin-off show, "Phyllis," for which Leachman won a Golden Globe. She has also been inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. Leachman's longtime friend and fellow Playhouse alumnus, Eddie Rissien, will also be honored.

Rissien worked as a program supervisor for ABC, Vice President of Production for Bing Crosby Productions and then Filmways, where his projects included "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Green Acres." This event is an opportunity to honor Playhouse legends whose talent and devotion to our theatre over a long period of time have helped set the high standards of entertainment, professionalism, and quality that our audiences expect today. The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the U.S. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
