Review: MEN ARE FROM MARS WOMEN ARE FROM VENUS LIVE! at Des Moines Performing Arts: Date Night May Never be the Same Again. Have you ever found looking at your significant other and wondering to yourself, "What is going on in that mind of yours"? Have you found yourself saying "If my significant other just knew this about me then things would make life easier"? If you have found yourself saying yes to either of those questions, then I may just have the answer for you. Take a trip down to the Temple of the Performing Arts to see the latest show in the Prairie Meadows Comedy Series, "Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus Live!" This show may just be the perfect date night for you.

If you are unfamiliar with the show, or the book that it is inspired from, "Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus Live!" takes a humorous look at how men and women think differently by looking at issues that come up in relationships. The show is written by Tony Award nominee Eric Coble, who did an amazing job with writing a script that could be related to by both men and women. But how funny is it? I found myself laughing from the beginning to the end of the show. While this show could easily become dated, it felt to me that the script was continuously being looked at and seemed to give room for the actor to play around.

Ryan Drummond does an amazing job bringing life to the script. He had the audience in his hand from the beginning of the show. The way he delivered each of the stories in the show, it felt as though he was talking about his own life. His transitions throughout the show came across seamlessly as he went from stories to video segments.

My favorite story of the night was towards the beginning of the show. It was a story about the character taking his wife on a date night to the opera. That day also ended up being the same day as a big game. As the story went on, I found laughing as parts of the story fit with experiences in my life. The stories continued throughout the night, each one having their own fitting laughs.

One of my favorite parts of the evening was the use of projections during the show. For the majority of the show, the projection is a simple backdrop image, but there are a few times that they brought in short videos from the author of the book. The way the videos were incorporated played into the humor of the show. Make sure to stay after the show as there are some fun post show videos that pop up along with the credits.

So is this a good show for a date night? It absolutely is. You will enjoy the show no matter where you are currently at in your relationship.
