A newly-married couple purchases an old house in the odd community of Salem Farms, Massachusetts with plans of opening a bed and breakfast. Although they've run out of money, that's the least of their worries. Hidden below the house is something left over from Puritan days. It's a menacing, walking, talking - SCARECROW MAN! His name is Endecott and over the centuries, he's managed to frighten away all comers. However, these Putnam's refuse to budge. Halloween night is their open house and the scarecrow has set a midnight deadline. Neighbors and guests turn out to be a loony bunch and when a dangerous killer escapes from the nearby correctional institution and passes himself off as a "Rent-a-Guest," this tongue-in-cheek comedy really takes off.

Tim Kelly's first play, Widow's Walk was published in the 1960's. He has written over 300 plays, which have been performed by the Royal Court Rep, the Studio Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, Los Angeles Actor's Theatre, The Aspen Playwright's Festival and the Seattle Repertory Company. Kelly was a drama critic and journalist from 1957-67, wrote for screen and television from 1968-78 and was a member of the College of Fellows of the American Theatre.
