The Colorado Symphony Launches Season 9/28-30

The official launch of the 2012/13 season of the Colorado Symphony takes place September 28 – 30 at Boettcher Concert Hall in the Denver Performing Arts Complex and features some of the most powerful music in the classical repertoire. Conductor, Gilbert Varga, leads superstar André Watts in the mighty Brahms Second Piano Concerto, and Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony, "Pathétique."

The following week, October 5 – 7, finds Colorado Symphony's principal horn, Michael Thornton, in the spotlight in the masterful and playful R. Strauss Second Horn Concerto. Guest conductor, Carlos Miguel Prieto, also leads the orchestra on a magic carpet ride in Rimsky-Korsakov's endearing Scheherazade.

A Rodgers & Hammerstein Celebration on October 13 is the first the Pops Series and features a collection of their work from musicals such as Oklahoma!, The King and I, and The Sound of Music.

The Colorado Symphony, Colorado Symphony Chorus and soloists, John Mac Master and Joni Henson, pay tribute to Italian grand opera October 19 – 21. Internationally known conductor, Maximiano Valdes, leads the program featuring works from opera favorites like La Traviata, Tosca, Otello and Turandot.

Virtuoso pianist, Lang Lang, returns to perform Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto on October 26th.

The Inside the Score Series kicks off on October 27 with resident conductor, Scott O'Neil, conducting Stravinsky's Petrouchka with special guests from The Colorado Ballet.

The annual Halloween Spooktacular family concert is Sunday, October 28, at 2:30 p.m. and children of all ages are invited to join the orchestra in costume for a program of spooky classics and chilling favorites.

Friday and Saturday concerts begin at 7:30 pm and Sunday concerts begin at 2:30 pm.
