The Bug Theatre Announces Packed January Line Up

Denver's most unique live theatre and film screening venue is exciting to open 2018 with a packed schedule full of comedy, film, theatre and more! There is a lot going on at The Bug this January, and the full list of events is available at www.BugTheatre.org.

Here are highlights for January 2018:

January 6 at 8:00 PM: 50 First Jokes: It's time for the 4th Annual 50 First Jokes Denver! Join us for an evening full of laughs as 50 of Denver's best comedians tell their first joke of the new year. All jokes must be written after the ball drops, and can't be read until they're on stage at The Bug. This year is even better because proceeds will benefit The Gathering Place, the only daytime drop-in center in metro Denver that serves women, their children, and transgender individuals experiencing poverty or homelessness. Hosted, once again, by Timmi Lasley! Final lineup to be announced, but past participants have included Josh Blue, Adam Cayton-Holland, Kristin Rand, Ben Roy, and many, many more!

January 18 at 8:00 PM: The Emerging Filmmakers Project: The Emerging Filmmakers Project (EFP) has been showcasing the best of Denver's indie film scene since 2002. Held the third Thursday of every month and hosted by local filmmaker Patrick Sheridan, the EFP is a great place to screen your work, network with other creatives in town, and to support your fellow indie filmmakers. A spirited talkback with each filmmaker follows their movie where you, the audience, get to tell the filmmaker exactly what you think of their work!

The lineup for the January EFP includes the following films:

"Love is Why We Are Here" by Rachel Marie Hunter
"Ducks 'A Million!" by Al Vigil
"Love Animals, Kale Yeah!" by Charles Cash
"Barking Brave" by Brandy Mello
"Flushed" by Andrew Tennison
"Losing Faith" by Grant Worden
"Mile High Nancy episode four: Edibles and Uniballs" by Nancy Fingerhood

Lineup subject to change! Doors open at 7:30. Screening begins at 8:00. $5.

January 26 at 7:30 PM: Evil Dead: The Musical: As Ash himself could tell you, it's hard to keep a Deadite down! Evil Dead: The Musical - our most highly-requested show of all time - is BACK with more blood, more action and more ASH! You know the story: "It's an old tale. You've probably heard it a hundred times. Boy and his friends go on a week long vacation in the woods. Three friends turn into Candarian demons. One friend is killed by a forest of evil trees. Two demons are killed by their boyfriends respectively, while one stays in the cellar trying to kill everything in sight. Like I said, pretty standard stuff." Runs through February 17! ACT FAST to get SPLATTER ZONE seating! This show sells out FAST!

January 29: Freak Train: Denver's longest-running open-mic variety show continues for January! You know the drill - the first 12 people to sign up get to do anything the want on The Bug stage. It might be the best five minutes of your life, it might be the worst. Either way - there's free beer! Don't miss one of the best traditions in Denver! Doors open at 7 PM, Show starts at 8. $5 (free Beer with 21+ ID)

January 30 at 7:00 PM: Open Screen Night: Open Screen Night is back January 30th at The Bug Theatre! Send us those videos to openscreennight.com! Welcome to the 16-Bit Challenge! Reel Nerds Podcast is sponsoring a new prize - a $50 Amazon gift card for the team with the best video that meets these criteria: Make a video of at least 2 minutes in length about this month's theme (16-bit) and include the phrase "All your base are belong to us". It's that easy! We want to push you to make more videos and hopefully this will get the wheels turning! The best video will be decided by a representative from Denver's best movie podcast. See your work on the big screen! Submit your short film, trailer, web-series, music video, animations and more to win prizes at openscreennight.com!
