The Bobby G Award Expands Statewide in 2015; Seeks Judging Panel

By:

In its third year, The Bobby G Awards expands to accept Colorado public and private high schools presenting a musical between September 10, 2014 and April 26, 2015. Registration opens August 18, 2014. The Bobby G Awards, the Colorado awards program for The National High School Musical Theater Awards, recognizes outstanding achievements in all areas of musical production including design, music, performance and direction. Read more about Randy Weeks, Executive Director for Denver Center Attractions, vision for the program expansion.

By participating in The Bobby G Awards, four trained adjudicators attend each musical. These adjudicators complete extensive evaluation forms offering detailed feedback on the comprehensive elements involved with staging a musical production. The entire program culminates in an awards ceremony at The Buell Theatre on the evening of May 28, 2015 recognizing outstanding achievement in the evaluated areas as well as performances from the shows nominated for Outstanding Overall Production and a medley from the nominees for Outstanding Performance by an Actress and Actor in a Leading Role. The Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role recipients progress to represent Colorado in New York at The National High School Musical Theater Awards. View highlights from the 2014 Bobby G Awards season.

The Bobby G Awards is now accepting adjudicator applications. Adjudicators must hold degree(s) in relevant fields (music, theatre, dance, etc.) and/or have extensive work experience in one of those disciplines on a professional or academic basis and/or are professional artists or educators with wide knowledge of the American Musical Theatre canon. Candidates must be outstanding writers with the ability to effectively communicate their impressions, evaluate production elements as well as student performances in a constructive manner. A stipend of $50 per adjudicated show is offered to adjudicators. Interested individuals should email BobbyGAwards@dcpa.org for more information.

The Bobby G Awards are named for the late Robert Garner, founder of what later became Denver Center Attractions and a pioneer of bringing Broadway to Denver. Just as Robert Garner was forever raising the bar of professional theatre in Colorado, Denver Center Attractions is proud to present The Bobby G Awards in his honor by encouraging and rewarding outstanding achievements in the production of high school musical theatre.
