Denver Actors Fund Announces 2014 Action Teams

By:

The Denver Actors Fund (DAF) is a modest source of immediate, situational monetary relief for when members of the local theater community find themselves in sudden medical need, but that is not all it is.

Denver Actors Fund, brain child of John Moore, began as an idea in May of 2013 as the theatre community rallied to aid local actress/educator Shelly Bordas.

DAF Executive Director John Moore states, "It's a rare person who never needed a helping hand at some time. Those working in the Denver theater community do it more for the passion than the paycheck. Most have day jobs with little or no health insurance, and they are highly vulnerable to the unpredictable illness or injury that can afflict any of us."

"Over the years, actors, directors, producers and companies have passed the hat when someone needed immediate financial or emotional assistance. However, the hat passing was informal and impromptu. Those days are over."

By July, fundraising efforts had begun and a board of directors established. By December, DAF merchandise was available on line in time for the holidays. The efforts paid off quickly as DAF was able to issue its first funding check in December. Since that time, DAF has come to the financial aid of three additional applicants. To date the Denver Actors Fund has succeeded in raising over $13,000.

Now DAF is pleased to announce the next phase of assistance to the theatre community...our Action Teams.

Volunteers from the Denver metro area and all along the Front Range have stepped up to create an army of angels in the following areas:

Errand Runners: Shopping, deliveries, housecleaning, chores, etc.

Meal Preparation and Delivery: Prepares meals, snacks or desserts and delivers them to home or hospital.

Transportation: To and/or from appointments, work, family gatherings or wherever you need to go.

Construction: Installing ramps, railings, safety equipment in the home or where required.

Babysitting: Providing child care so you can work, run errands or take care of personal business.

Personal Company: Spend time with you at home or in the hospital; read, play games, visit, etc.

Whatever the need may be, however big or small, our volunteers are ready and eager to assist.

We are standing by to help right now.

To qualify for assistance, the applicant must have been a resident of the Denver Metro area for at least the past six months and have worked on at least one theatrical production in the past five years.
