Det Kongelige Teater Presents HAMLET, PRINCE OF DENMARK

Det Kongelige Teater will present Hamlet, Prince of Denmark September 15-26.

Be captivated and touched by Shakespeare's Hamlet, Prince of Denmark - the famous tale of revenge, murder and the transformation of a young man into an insane avenger.

The great talent Esben Smed is Hamlet in one of the season's great classics, when acting director Morten Kirkskov stages Shakespeare's breaking bad story, which focuses on the individual's right and the personal costs it has to go against power by taking up arms.

Hamlet has interrupted his humanities studies in Wittenberg and has returned home to Kronborg to bury his father, the King. He is in deep grief and must find himself in that his uncle Claudius not only takes over the throne, but also marries his mother, Queen Gertrud. His father's ghost appears before Hamlet and demands revenge on his killer, King Claudius. Nothing Hamlet is more against than revenge and killing, but despite his nagging doubts, he is transformed into an insane human being, a killer. In his impossible struggle, he betrays not only his own ideals, but also his great love, Ofelia.

The German artist Philipp Fürhofer is in charge of the scenography, and Karin Betz designs the Renaissance-inspired costumes.
