Wilmington Renaissance Corporation (WRC) is pleased to announce plans to launch Creative Chat, an informal, interactive series held six times a year to update our community about the vision plan for a Creative District. Each event starts with a networking opportunity followed by a presentation by an expert in the creative or maker field. Creative Chats are free and open to the public.

The kickoff event will be titled WRC's Creative Chat: A Vision for a Creative District in Wilmington and will feature special guest Evan Malone, Ph.D., president, NextFab. It will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Chris White Gallery, 701 Shipley Street, Wilmington.

Attendees will learn about the vision for a Creative District that will establish a creative community with living and work spaces for artists and entrepreneurs in the City of Wilmington. A fabrication lab is a key component of the Creative District Vision Plan. Dr. Malone, president of NextFab in Philadelphia (nextfab.com), will share NextFab's model of a collective workspace and idea incubator that brings industrious creatives together. Founded in 2009, this for-profit workshop's membership base has access to two million dollars' worth of machinery and top-notch instructors to make everything from laser-cut felt jewelry to medical monitoring devices.
