Human Race Theatre Announces Schwartz Scholarship, Artist's Way Workshop

By: Jan. 10, 2011

The Human Race Theatre, Dayton's own professional theatre company, announces the Fourth Annual Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre Scholarship competition, for high school seniors and college students.

The competition is open to Musical Theatre majors or prospective majors who either live in Montgomery County or one of the seven bordering counties, or who attend college in one of those areas. In previous years, the scholarship - inspired by The Human Race's premiere 2007 presentation of Schwartz's Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook - has awarded $18,000 to 23 deserving competitors.
The deadline for entries is February 1. Application forms and more information are at www.humanracetheatre.org (under Shows and Events).

Also, beginning February 1, noted children's author and artist Jo Shepherd Ripley will conduct The Artist's Way workshops, based on the writings of Julia Cameron. Ripley, the mother of Tony Award-winning actress (and West Carrollton High grad) Alice Ripley, will present the program at The Caryl D. Philips Creativity Center in six one-hour sessions, with a maximum of 12 participants. For more information and/or to register, please visit www.humanracetheatre.org.
