Dayton Theatre Hall of Fame Honors Joe Deer
According to MostMetro.com, the Dayton Theatre Hall of Fame will honor Joe Deer, professor of musical theatre and director of Wright State University's Musical Theatre Initiative.
He will be inducted during the DayTony Awards tonight, August 8, 2015 at Sinclair Community College.
Deer has been a fixture of the Musical Theatre program at Wright State since it was founded in 1997. He has also directed productions for Human Race Theatre Company and served on their board.
Deer also penned the widely used textbooks DIRECTING IN MUSICAL THEATRE: AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE and ACTING IN MUSICAL THEATRE: A COMPREHENSIVE COURSE.
Due to his efforts in the local theatre community, national theatre stars such as composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz and actresses Leslie Uggams and Audra McDonald have appeared in Dayton.
Established in 2001, the Dayton Theatre Hall of Fame was created to honor local theater artists and patrons of the arts whose life-long participation, innovation, and creativity have influenced the Dayton arts culture.
