Nancy Evans Dance Theatre

Nancy Evans Dance Theatre is a modern dance company based in Pasadena, California, producing and guest performing since 2009 under artistic director Nancy Evans Doede. Its stated mission is to create original works of dance theatre that celebrate storytelling for every generation, to feature mature artists from their twenties to sixties and beyond who are often underused, to reach new and diverse audiences through traditional and non-traditional movement language, and to let its artists work as co-creators. The repertory includes choreography by Doede as well as by company dancers and guest artists. Public teaching centers on an open-level modern dance class led by Doede and company members on Sunday mornings at Pasadena Dance Theatre, covering foundational movement, strength, alignment, musicality and expression, drawn from a modern lineage tracing to Mary Wigman via Hanya Holm. The company is also available for touring, master classes and residencies, and runs an on-demand film series.
