Lathrop School of Dance was established in 1952 and teaches at 45 Main Street in Newtown, Connecticut, marking its 75th year in 2026 with an August registration day ahead of the autumn term. The school's main offering is a nine-month program running from September through to its recital, The Stardust Revue, held the first weekend in June; classes last 45 to 60 minutes and registration stays open through November. Subjects taught include pre-ballet and rhythm for the youngest dancers, ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and hip hop, along with a Parent and Me class and a tap/jazz combo class that also covers Broadway dance, musical theatre, production and kick line numbers. In addition to the full dance year the school runs shorter four-week dance and fitness sessions with new classes forming throughout the year, plus summer classes and camps and children's birthday parties.
