WaterTower Theatre (WTT) continues the 2009-2010 Season with the Regional Premiere of Frank Higgins' Black Pearl Sings!

In the midst of the Great Depression, Susannah Mullally travels the country, recording lost traditional songs for the Library of Congress. When she encounters Pearl in a Texas prison, Susannah uncovers a treasure-trove of unrecorded slave-era music. But can Pearl hand over her ancestor's songs without giving up something of herself? Starring powerhouse performer Liz Mikel, Black Pearl Sings! is the powerful, honest, and wryly funny story of two women from radically different backgrounds and the music that unites them.

Directed by WTT Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin with musical direction by Akin Babtunde, Black Pearl Sings! stars television and Dallas stage performer Liz Mikel (from WTT's It Ain't Nothin' but the Blues and Blind Lemon: Prince of Country Blues) and Diana Sheehan (breakout star of WTT's Grey Gardens). Scenic design is by Christopher Pickart, lighting design is by Leann Ellis, and costume design is by Michael Robinson.

Black Pearl Sings! will run May 27 - June 20 at the Addison Theatre Centre, which is located at 15650 Addison Road in Addison, Texas. Performance times are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays at 8:00 PM, Saturdays at 2:00 PM (June 19 only) and 8:00 PM, and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Ticket prices range from $15 - $40. Tickets are available by calling the WTT Box Office at 972.450.6232 or online at www.watertowertheatre.org. Group rates are also available.

For the past twelve years, WaterTower Theatre has proven itself to be on the forefront of both the regional and Dallas theatre communities. WTT has been recognized for artistic excellence by the Dallas Theatre League, Dallas/Fort Worth Theater Critics Forum, The Dallas Morning News, The Dallas Observer, D Magazine and Star-Telegram, among others. WaterTower Theatre has a subscription base in excess of 2,100 subscribers and serves an audience base of over 35,000 patrons annually. WaterTower Theatre is supported in part by the Town of Addison, TACA, The Texas Commission on the Arts and Rainmaker Advertising.
