Theatre of Death

October 15 – November 1, 2009

An evening of seven short plays dating back to the Middle Ages linked by one common thread:  Death!  Laugh, cry, be startled and scared as we present a collection of black humor plays dealing with this timeless subject.  A woman ironing reveals a secret involving the shirt she is pressing; four inept and clumsy people are trapped and they only have 13 minutes to figure out how they will survive; a man discovers his wife is having affairs with three different men and decides to confront them…  This show launched our company back in 2004, and every two years we bring it back with a new collection of short plays.  Every time it is presented it has been hailed by critics and the press as being “elegant”, “macabre”, a “must see”, and one of the “top theatre events” in the DFW area.  Be sure to join us for our Halloween show in which audience members are encouraged to come in costumes and every patron receives a fun goodie bag full of treats, coupons and tickets to other shows at other theatres!

The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents:  A Bur-less-Q Nutcracker!

by Mark-Brian Sonna

November 27 – December 27, 2009

Are you tired of the typical Holiday shows?  Come check ours out! If you missed it before, here’s your chance to catch it! If you did see it, you know you’ll want to see it again! This play broke all attendance & box office records & garnered a Column Award nomination for “Best New Play of the Year”. The women of the Beulaville Baptist Book Club are in dire straits financially, and as a last ditch attempt to save their book club they decide to do a fundraiser and hire the Beaumont Ballet to perform Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” Madge’s Piña Colada Casserole unfortunately sickens the entire cast with food poisoning and they are unable to perform. Luckily, there is another dance troop in town. It seems the Velvet Kittens Burlesque Dancers are stuck in Beulaville because their van broke down on their way to New Orleans. Madge has never heard of Burlesque, or as she pronounces it “Bur-less-Q”, and in an act of necessity hires the dance troupe to do “The Nutcracker”.” The result? The most original, unusual, and comical Nutcracker you’ve ever seen!   Oh, and if you’ve seen it before, you must come back for we’ve added a new twist this year:  The book club women also fall ill to Madge’s culinary disasters, so their husbands & boyfriends take over…in drag!Nominated as best new play of the year by The Column Awards, 2007.

How long does it take you to fall in and out and back in love?2 comedies explore the parallel loves of 4 people.   A Rainy Afternoon explores the trials and tribulations of two young people that first meet at a park bench and develop a crush.  A Sunny Morning is about a chance meeting of two elderly people at the same bench which they discover that they had a torrid affair with each other fifty years earlier.   Both plays, though written a century apart intertwine to tell the greater story of love and its consequences!

Persephone, Queen of the Dead

by Mark-Brian Sonna, World Premier

March 18 – April 10, 2010

A young woman, Persephone, is picking flowers one day.  The earth opens up and she’s abducted by Hades, Lord of the Dead, and taken to the underworld to reign over the souls of the deceased.  Demeter arranges a bold rescue, but Hades devises a counter plan by conjuring up sinister creatures.  Based on the classic Greek Myth, this play is a tour of the ancient view of what the underworld looked like.  The play is intended for mature audiences due to violence, graphic images and nudity.

Dream Café

a dreamy comedy by Alejandro de la Costa, World Premiere

May 20 – June 12, 2010

Brian is a single man trying to find his perfect mate.  He keeps running up against obstacles preventing him from falling in love.  Perhaps his problem is that not all of his relationships are real?  Five scenes are presented in this man’s life.  What makes the play unique is that each night the same five scenes will be presented in random order as picked by the audience.  The result is a different play nightly depending on the order of the scenes. This is a play that you will definitely want to attend more than once to see how the story changes with each performance.

Kiss the Boys

a murderous comedy By Mark-Brian Sonna

July 26 – August 21, 2010

It’s back by popular demand!  See the show that has become a cult favorite and the most requested for an encore by our audiences!  Most murder mysteries are based on the concept of "who dunnit?" This sexy comedy is a case of "will they do it?'"  A gay couple decides to hold a most unusual dinner party.  They have invited the one person that hurt them the most in their life in order to murder them.  The plan is simple: poisonEd Martinis will be served to the two guests.  How complicated can it be?  Chaos ensues when an uninvited guest shows up who won't drink alcohol, one has become a born again Christian, and is intending to redeem the gay couple from their life of sin, and the other will only drink beer.  Oh, did we mention that not everyone in this gathering of five is being truthful and may also have ulterior motives, of which murder is also a part?  You'll laugh as you squirm in your seat not knowing if, who, how, and when someone might get murdered!Nominated as best new play of the year by The Column Awards, 2006.
