The folly of most people is rather an object of mirth than uneasiness and mirth will be plentiful when Shakespeare Dallas presents She Stoops to Conquer. The classic by the comedic Irish playwright Oliver Goldsmith opens the 2016 season of Shakespeare in the Park. Performances will run June 15-18 and June 29-July 22 every Wednesday - Friday at the Samuell Grand Amphitheater, 1500 Tenison Parkway in Dallas.

To be directed by guest director Mason York, Goldsmith's comedy of manners is a wild romp in the lives of a family and their sordid adventures. In the play, Mr. Hardcastle, a wealthy countryman, hopes to arrange a marriage between his daughter Kate, performed by Anastasia Munoz, and Charles Marlow, played by Seth Magill. Although he is the son of a rich Londoner, Kate realizes she will have to pretend to be 'common' for Marlow to fall for her. A practical joke leads to misunderstandings that must be resolved before Kate's plan can succeed.

Performances of She Stoops to Conquer begin at 8:15 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the gate or online. Additional information is available online at www.shakespearedallas.org or 214-559-2778.

Inspired by the egalitarian nature of the New York Shakespeare Festival, Robert "Bob" Glenn started The Shakespeare Festival of Dallas in 1971 as a free summer Shakespeare Festival. The company serves the community as one of North Texas' most treasured cultural institutions and the area's only producer of an education program focused on teaching Shakespeare. In 2005, the company revamped its operations and branded the organization "Shakespeare Dallas" to illustrate the company's new direction of year-round, affordable and accessible programming. Shakespeare Dallas aspires to use the works of William Shakespeare as a catalyst for creating unparalleled artistic and educational programs that are meaningful and enriching for the community it serves throughout North Texas.
