In Abraham Lincoln's Big, Gay Dance Party, a fourth-grade Christmas pageant in Lincoln's rural Illinois hometown sets off a firestorm of controversy when it calls into question Honest Abe's uh . preferences. A thought-provoking, laugh-out-loud funny, and uniquely American story unfolds, offering surprises at every turn. Each of the three acts lets the audience see the story from a different character's viewpoint - and at each performance the audience decides in which order the acts are performed, creating a Rubik's Cube-like theatrical event. A truly democratic theatergoing experience! What could be more American than that?

The play is told in three acts, but they can be performed in any order. The order in which we see the acts can change the way we interpret the events and the way we understand the story in its entirety.

In one order, the play is a murder mystery. In another order, the play is about redemption and forgiveness. In a third, it's about betrayal.

Auditions will be held on April 10th from 2-5pm at the KD Studio Theatre located at 2600 N Stemmons Frwy, Dallas, TX 75207. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Roles available include:
Jerry - Young, gorgeous guy from rural, Illinois; the kind of guy who wears long johns under a plaid shirt. Jerry projects the image of a good ole boy from farm country, but there's something a little too meticulous about the way he's put together, something effeminate: he appears to have actual human feeling, a genuine no-no.

Anton - Pure wolf. Anton is so smooth, cigarettes smoke him to look cool. He is on the wrong side of 40, has never settled down with anyone or anything and leads a fabulous life. He is always impeccable dressed.

Esmerelda - A larger than life woman, Esmerelda is black and Cubana. She is one of those women adventurous young girls aspire to be. She does not care what others say or think. She has done it all, and anything she hasn't done yet, there is no doubt she'll get to. Esmerelda wears wild outfits that say Kate Hepburn meets Amelia Earhart: riding jodhpurs & thigh-high boots, safari gear; sharp tweed suits.

Tom - Menard County's conservative District Attorney, former Congressman, and Jerry's father. Tom believes his home is under attack by radicals and he will do anything to protect the lifestyle of rural Illinois. Tom is a legend in repose, having been instrumental in the recovery of Republican power in Illinois in the post-Daley years. He hasn't done much lately.

Regina - A State Senator from the Chicago area, Regina is a lawyer and a Republican. She is a true believer in the roots of the Republican Party, essentially a Libertarian. Regina radiates authority, genius and ambition. She is simultaneously a good person, a true patriot and hungry for power.

Harmony - A school teacher in Menard County, Harmony is a left-wing liberal with extremely progressive politics and lifestyle. She has kept this secret for most of her life in Menard County because she knows people would not appreciate it. Sadly, she is now in the spotlight and cannot hide any longer.

Lloyd - A political operative from Washington, Lloyd is he kind of guy who knows where the bodies are buried. He's a string-puller and a dealmaker. He likes breaking a few eggs, with or without the omelet.

Tina - Regina's legislative aide, an up-and-coming operative in the party, Tina believes Regina is a rising star and she intends to hitch her wagon to that star.

We are also looking for Crew positions, including Board Ops and Property Designers.

Rehearsals will start in May. Show will June 3rd through 25th at the KD Studio Theatre, 2600 N Stemmons Frwy. More information available at www.levelgroundarts.com.
